Blackburn Rovers defender Andre Ooijer will miss the rest of the Premiership season after suffering a broken leg in the club's 3-0 win over Manchester City.
Ooijer had to be stretchered off in the first half of the game at Eastlands when City striker Bernardo Corradi fell on his leg following a corner.
Now the summer signing from PSV Eindhoven will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering a broken tibula and torn angle ligaments.
Ooijer's father-in-law Willy van de Kerkhof spoke with the Rovers defender and confirmed that he will require surgery after the serious injury.
"I spoke with Andre on the phone and he was very down, although this injury will not mean the end of his career," said van de Kerkhof to Sport 1.
"His knee is not really damaged like we feared."
Mark Hughes had indicated that he would not enter the transfer market following the incident, but the severity of the injury may cause him to think again.
