Gareth Southgate has admitted that he is sympathetic to Fabio Rochemback's current plight at Middlesbrough.
The Brazilian midfielder is desperate to secure a move away from The Riverside, but his former club Sporting have so far been unable to thrash out a deal.
Rochemback's father said on Thursday that his son had no intention of pulling on a Boro shirt again and Southgate has confirmed that he will not figure in his plans for the foreseeable future.
Southgate claims he is trying to find a solution which suits all parties, but has warned that a deal is far from certain.
"At the moment there is a lot going on in his head," Southgate told the Daily Express. "So it is better that he just trains and is not involved in the squad.
"It is understandably difficult for Fabio because he is frustrated at not being in the team.
"I don't really know how it will be resolved. He has said he'd like to go back to Lisbon if the opportunity is there.
"We want to help him if we can but if he is still with us at the end of the month, he will be firmly back into our squad and part of our club."
