Sheffield United have moved quickly to deny that an agreement is in place with Liverpool for skipper Phil Jagielka.
Reports had claimed that The Reds had already secured a deal worth £9million for Jagielka - should The Blades be relegated.
However, Blades chairman Terry Robinson has insisted there is no truth in the claims.
"We have not spoken to Liverpool about Phil," said Robinson.
"There have been no talks, no approaches, no contact whatsoever. Anyone who suggests otherwise is speaking rubbish."
Jagielka has had an outstanding season in the Premiership since United's promotion, playing in both midfield and defence, and a host of clubs are sure to fight for his services, should he become available.
