Vikash Dhorasoo is understood to be in England talking with three Premiership clubs.
The former France international midfielder has been without a club since being sacked by Paris Saint Germain in September.
A host of clubs across Europe have been linked with a move for Dhorasoo, with former club Le Havre confirming an interest.
However, the 33-year-old has rejected the Ligue 2 side's advances and is expected to join a club outside France.
"Concerning Vikash Dhorasoo, there is no hope he will join us at the moment," Le Havre chairman Jean-Pierre Louvel told the club's official website.
"I have talked to him on the phone and we agreed a comeback at this time wouldn't suit both parties.
"You must be aware that it is not a matter of money, we haven't talked about that with Vikash."
While the likes of Galatasaray and Livorno have been linked most recently, reports emanating from France suggest Dhorasoo is edging towards a move to England.
Premiership trio Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough are all thought to be keen to sign the former Milan midfielder.
According to Le Parisien, Dhorasoo is due to meet with Sam Allardyce to talk over a move to The Reebok Stadium.
Harry Redknapp is also interested as he looks to strengthen in January, while Boro are searching for a replacement for Fabio Rochemback who is eager to return to Sporting Lisbon.
