Stuart Pearce has admitted that he would make a move for David Beckham if the former England captain indicated he fancied a move to Manchester City.
The midfielder's future at Real Madrid is set to be decided this week, as crunch contract talks are due to reach a conclusion, but the signs are suggesting he will head away from the Spanish capital in the summer.
Beckham is one of the most recognised players on the planet and he is unlikely to be short of offers should he be made available for transfer.
Pearce feels the chances of luring Beckham to Eastlands are remote, due to his ties with Manchester United, but he would not hesitate in making a bid if the player hinted he would like to play for City.
"He's a great player, but we are Manchester City and he played for Manchester United for a number of years," Pearce said on Sky Sports News. "I think most teams in the world will be interested in taking David Beckham, especially on a Bosman in the summer.
"There's a million and one clubs that David Beckham and the David Beckham brand could play for; if we had any inkling he was interested in playing for this club then we would be very interested."
Pearce feels the 31-year-old has plenty of fuel left in the tank and does not believe his star is on the wane.
"He is fully fit; is fully focused on the job," added Pearce. "I would argue he is still the best dead-ball kicker in the world and six months ago he was captaining England.
"People weren't writing him off then and I am not now.
"I think he can play to whatever age he wants to as he is very clever footballer."
