Belgravia drop Toon interest
The Belgravia Group have announced to the Stock Exchange that they no longer intend to make an offer for Newcastle.
The Jersey-based group had been locked in talks with Newcastle over a possible takeover for a number of months.
Former Magpies chairman Sir John Hall and his son Douglas are keen to sell their stake in the North East club and current supremo Freddy Shepherd admitted he was ready to do business for the right price.
However, the Belgravia Group have revealed they were unable to agree a deal with the Tyneside club.
A statement read: "Further to the announcement made by Belgravia on August 21 that it was examining the potential opportunity of acquiring Newcastle, Belgravia today announces it no longer intends to make an offer for Newcastle.
"Despite lengthy and protracted negotiations, Belgravia has been unable to agree a price and transaction structure, which it feels would have been in the best interests of those involved, as well as being in the best interests of the football club and its supporters."
However, the group could still return to the table if circumstances change.
The statement added: "Belgravia reserves the right to announce an offer or possible offer or make or participate in an offer or possible offer for Newcastle and/or take any other action which would otherwise be restricted under rule 2.8 of the City code within the next six months, in the event that an agreement or recommendation from the board of Newcastle is forthcoming or there is an announcement by a third party of an offer or there is a material change in circumstances."
The Belgravia Group are the second lot of investors to pull out of takeover talks for Newcastle after The St James' Park Group, backed by American investors Polygon, dropped their interest earlier this month.
Roeder holds no grudge
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder insists he does not hold a grudge against former club West Ham, despite the taunts of Upton Park supporters.
Roeder was a target when Newcastle won at Upton Park earlier this season, with Hammers supporters making him a scapegoat for the club's relegation back in 2003.
The Hammers are looking over their shoulders again this season and travel to Newcastle on Saturday desperate for three points.
Roeder hopes his former team beat the drop, but his main concern this weekend is masterminding a win for Newcastle, to help supporters forget the ignominy of their 5-1 FA Cup defeat to Birmingham in midweek.
"I don't hold any grudges against West Ham. I don't want them to go down," Roeder told the Mirror.
"I have never wished them any ill-will despite everything that has happened.
"What hurt most of all is I am a kid from East London. My own turned on me.
"I didn't think they scratched the surface deep enough or showed enough intelligence to see the problems I had when I was at the club.
"This weekend's game is not about me against West Ham though.
"It is about Newcastle and the three points we need, for different reasons, every bit as much as they do. We can never fully repay how badly we let our supporters down in the FA Cup against Birmingham.
"The greatest pleasure I get when we get three points is sending them home happy or down into the town to enjoy themselves. I'll be thinking about them, not West Ham's fans."
Roeder promises new faces
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is confident he will be able to bring 'new faces' to St James' Park in the January transfer window, despite conceding the fact it has been a struggle thus far.
Wednesday night's humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Championship side Birmingham in an FA Cup replay merely underlined the fact Newcastle are struggling for bodies, given the unprecedented level of injuries they have had to endure this season.
The treatment room at the North East club has been congested all season and while a number of players are set to return before too long, Roeder accepts that he needs to make inroads in the January window.
Roeder claims that top level players have been targeted, with a plan to bring in players on-loan still very much at the forefront of his mind.
"The players weÂ’ve targeted are of a high quality and the clubs where they are at donÂ’t really want them to leave and are making it difficult for us," Roeder told Sky Sports News.
"Make no mistake about it, before the window closes there will be new faces in here.
"After what happened on Wednesday night IÂ’m not going to panic, IÂ’ll stay true to my beliefs and it was always my intention to find two players who would come in on loan until the end of the season, possibly with a view to signing if they do well.
"If we canÂ’t make a significant signing that weÂ’re targeting in January, that does not mean in the summer we wonÂ’t be back in.
"It also buys us time to perhaps unearth some other possible players. What would help now is if those players that have been injured come back.
"ThereÂ’s a couple more coming back tomorrow."
Roeder happy with response
Glenn Roeder has admitted he was pleased with how his side fought back to claim a point against West Ham.
Newcastle came into the game on the back of a thumping by Birmingham in the FA Cup and another mauling appeared to be on the cards as The Hammers raced into a two-goal lead.
However, James Milner cut into the lead before the break and a Nolberto Solano penalty completed the fightback.
"I got a response after we lost two goals early on which were disappointing to concede," Roeder told Sky Sports News.
"It became a real test of character after the game on Wednesday and they responded very well, so well in fact that we are disappointed we did not take the three points."
Reflecting on why Newcastle started slowly, Roeder added: "Maybe it was the game in midweek, it is a demanding public and I want that.
"But overall I am pleased in the end with the response we got."
Magpies fight back for point
Newcastle produced a superb fightback as they came from two goals down to claim a home point against West Ham.
The Hammers raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Carlton Cole and Marlon Harewood and they threatened to run riot just as Birmingham had done in midweek.
However, James Milner reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time and, having dominated the second half, a penalty from Nolberto Solano secured a point for the home side.
Returning skipper Scott Parker attempted to rally the Newcastle troops with a pre-game huddle, but it failed to have the desired effect as The Magpies looked short of confidence in the early stages and Yossi Benayoun should have done better when lashing wildly over the bar from 12 yards on eight minutes.
The powerful figure of Harewood escaped the attentions of Peter Ramage and forced a save from Shay Given, who moments later clasped a free-kick from Nigel Quashie as West Ham called the tune in the early stages.
Newcastle were made to pay for failing to stamp their authority on the game as Cole popped up on 18 minutes to score West Ham's first away goal in the Premiership since August.
A devilish corner from Luis Boa Morte caused panic in the Newcastle box, Calum Davenport climbed high and headed back across goal for Cole to volley home from close range.
Newcastle at least reared their head above the parapet after slipping behind and Obafemi Martins had a weak header saved by Roy Carroll.
Harewood served notice of his threat on 11 minutes and Newcastle failed to heed the warning as the powerful striker doubled West Ham's lead on 22 minutes.
George McCartney played the ball into the forward, he rolled Ramage far too easily for Newcastle's liking before advancing on goal and stabbing a low shot beyond Given.
Ramage's misery was compounded on the half-hour mark as he was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, but shortly after the defender's exit The Magpies fashioned three good chances.
A neat ball from Milner resulted in Kieron Dyer volleying just over, shortly afterwards Martins tricked his way past Davenport but sliced his shot wide and moments later Alan O'Brien hit the outside of the post with a fine drive.
Although Newcastle continued to frustrate the St James' Park faithful by giving the ball away, they still created chances and after Roy Carroll had saved from Nicky Butt, The Magpies reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time.
Milner had been Newcastle's brightest spark in the first half and he cut onto his left foot and arrowed a shot into the far corner. The goal angered The Hammers, though, as the effort went through Parker's legs before finding its target and he was clearly in an offside position in front of Carroll, but the goal was allowed to stand.
Newcastle were much more urgent after the break, but it took a slice of luck to hand them the chance to draw level as Boa Morte unfortunately handled after slipping in his own area.
Solano took the responsibility from 12 yards and confidently tucked the ball home to level the scores.
The goal brought about a total shift in momentum and Carroll had to be at his best to deny Martins who had been teed-up superbly by Dyer.
West Ham still carried an aerial threat and Davenport thought he had made himself an instant hero when heading home from a corner, but the debutant was denied a goal for a foul on Paul Huntington.
Given will be sick of the sight of the claret shirts of West Ham as he was forced off through injury for the second time this season.
He suffered a serious stomach injury at Upton Park and on this occasion it would appear as if he damaged his groin when attempting to claim a cross.
Newcastle continued to drive forward and Solano found Dyer with a great cross, but the midfielder was unfortunate to see his effort cannon off the woodwork.
Substitute Matthew Etherington passed up a decent opportunity for West Ham as, having rounded Steve Harper, he dallied and was crowded out by defenders.
Carroll has reclaimed the West Ham number one jersey in recent weeks and he proved exactly why in injury-time as he did superbly to thwart Martins with a fine one-handed save as The Hammers took a point back to East London.
Roeder calls for clarity
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has called for football's lawmakers to take a look at the current offside rule.
West Ham boss Alan Curbishley was left a frustrated figure on Saturday, as he felt his side were denied victory at St James' Park by a controversial decision.
James Milner scored on the stroke of half-time to cut into West Ham's lead, but Scott Parker appeared to be in an offside position.
Curbishley voiced his frustrations and Roeder feels the grey area needs to be eliminated.
"It is very much a grey area, no doubt about it," Roeder told Sky Sports News. "An incident has happened and it is touch and go whether Scott Parker is in a position where he is interfering with their goalkeeper.
"It would be good to sit down with Keith Hackett (referees' chief) to clear up these grey areas with the offside rule.
"I am not absolutely certain and people around the game are not certain and it would be nice to have it clarified to stop this controversy."
Toon wait on Given injury
Shay Given will have a scan on his injured groin on Monday, while his fellow Newcastle team-mate Peter Ramage is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Irish keeper Given limped out of Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham having landed awkwardly when attempting to claim a cross.
Given received treatment on the field, but was unable to continue and manager Glenn Roeder has revealed that the injury will be assessed on Monday.
"He will have a scan on Monday morning," said Roeder.
"It's hard to find the words to describe somebody who hardly ever missed a game in five seasons but suffered a shocking injury, ironically, at West Ham that required an operation, and now he has damaged his groin.
"We are just fortunate to have a goalkeeper in Steve Harper who is undoubtedly of Premiership class, but we just hope Shay is not going to be out a long time."
Ramage is facing a number of weeks on the sidelines, as he pulled up sharply with a hamstring injury against The Hammers.
"It will probably put him out for a couple of weeks," noted Roeder.
It would appear that Ramage and Given will at least find some elbow room in the treatment room as Titus Bramble, Damien Duff and Celestine Babayaro are on their way back to fitness.
"I've got players coming back from injury," said Roeder. "Titus Bramble is back in training and Damien Duff and Celestine Babayaro will be fit for the Aston Villa game."
Milner hails Magpies spirit
James Milner thinks Newcastle demonstrated there is a positive spirit coursing through the camp by bouncing back from two goals down to claim a point against West Ham.
The Magpies came into the game on the back of a mauling by Birmingham in the FA Cup and a repeat looked on the cards as they slipped behind against The Hammers.
Milner scored a controversial goal on the stroke of half-time and it proved to be the catalyst to a fine second-half display which was capped by a penalty from Nolberto Solano.
The former Leeds man could not offer any reason as to why Newcastle started so badly, but was quick to praise the players for battling back.
"We did not start well and could have rolled over after the result in midweek, but we didn't, " Milner told Sky Sports News
"The lads did well and we could have gone on to win it in the end.
"We were all positive before the game, but it was one of those things where we didn't get off to the best of starts.
"But we battled hard and rallied and got the goal and pushed on.
"It showed great character after what happened in midweek to put in that sort of performance.
"The lads showed the quality they have and we stuck together which is the important thing."
Month out for Given
Newcastle have confirmed that keeper Shay Given will be sidelined for a month due to injury.
Given limped out of Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham after straining a groin when attempting to claim a cross.
The Irishman was sent for a scan on Monday and the tests confirmed he had suffered damage to his groin.
The Magpies have been advised by their medical team that Given will be sidelined for upwards of four weeks.
It is the second injury Given has picked up against West Ham this term, as he suffered a perforated bowel at Upton Park in September.
Magpies chief Glenn Roeder is sure to rue the absence of Given, but he has a more than able deputy in the fit-again Steve Harper.
Toon confirm Davies interest
Glenn Roeder has confirmed his interest in bringing West Brom defender Curtis Davies to Newcastle.
The Magpies chief has seen a number of moves fail to bear fruit this month, as he attempts to beef up his options.
Roeder has made strengthening his defence one of his key priorities and Davies would appear to be high on his wish-list.
"Getting top-class young English defenders like Curtis Davies is proving a tough nut to crack," he told the Evening Chronicle.
"I have to say he's one of the players we have targeted in the January window, but if we don't get him he has to be a possibility for the summer."
Roeder also confirmed an approach for one of Arsenal's young guns had fallen on deaf ears.
"We have asked Arsenal if we could have one of their young players on loan, but Arsene Wenger said he wants to keep him at the moment because he is not ready to play Premiership football week-in, week-out," stated Roeder.
"We have accepted Arsene's decision and, as far as this player is concerned, that is the end of the matter."
Anton quiet on Toon talk
West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand claims he is in the dark over whether Newcastle have lodged a bid for his services.
The Hammers have been major players in the transfer marker this month, as new owner Eggert Magnusson endeavours to revamp the side in order to haul the club away from danger.
There has also been talk of players moving on from Upton Park and classy defender Ferdinand has been linked with a switch to Newcastle.
Ferdinand clams he is content with his lot at West Ham and is unaware of interest from Newcastle.
"This is where I have grown up," he said in the Telegraph. "I would never choose to back out of a relegation fight for West Ham.
"It is news to me that Newcastle want to sign me. You will have to ask the manager."
Roeder warns Spurs off Duff
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has warned Tottenham that any approach for Damien Duff will fall on deaf ears.
Republic of Ireland international Duff is closing on a return to fitness and reports are suggesting Spurs chief Martin Jol may test Newcastle's resolve to keep the winger this month.
Duff only arrived at Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer and although he has not made the expected impact on account a couple of injuries, Roeder has no plans to let him move on.
"We have read the reports of Spurs wanting Damien Duff over the weekend, but we have heard nothing from them," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.
"In any case, they must know they are wasting their time. Why would we sign Damien Duff in the close season and then sell him on before that season is over?
"We are trying to build a good squad here at Newcastle United and Duff is very much part of our plans."
One player on his way out of St James' Park is striker Carl Finnigan, with the 20-year set to move to Falkirk.
Finnigan proved a star turn at junior level, but has not made the step up and will hope for more luck in Scotland having agreed an 18-month deal.
Milner happy with progress
James Milner has revived his Newcastle career this term and he is happy with how he is progressing at St James' Park.
Milner spent last term on loan at Aston Villa and the Midlands outfit came close to wrapping up a permanent deal in the summer.
Only an 11th-hour change of heart from Magpies boss Glenn Roeder prevented the contracts from being signed and such has been Milner's renaissance that he is now a firm fixture in the side.
Milner scored his third goal in his last five games against West Ham on Saturday and he is happy to be playing regularly once again.
"I am enjoying it very much," he told Sky Sports News. "It is great to be playing for a big club like Newcastle and in front of the fans.
"It is a great stadium and a great place to play.
"I am enjoying my football playing every week and you just try to work hard and improve."
Roeder opts against Gavrancic
Glenn Roeder has confirmed Goran Gavrancic and Oguchi Onyewu will not be joining Newcastle United.
Dynamo Kiev defender Gavrancic had been linked with a move to St James' Park as Roeder looks to add cover to his back-line.
But after exploring the possibility of signing the Serbia international, Roeder has opted against making a bid.
"I have conducted my own investigations into Gavrancic and decided he is not a player we will be signing," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.
"I have been told by people I respect, and who know what they are talking about, that he is no better than the defenders we already have at St James' Park.
"But while Gavrancic is not coming this does not mean we have slackened off in our efforts to bring a couple of players in before the transfer window closes next Wednesday.
"The four or five players we have targeted are still with their clubs and I can put my hand on my heart and honestly say that we have not wanted any of the players who have already moved in the transfer window."
United States international Onyewu was another centre-half to have been linked with a January move to The Magpies.
Roeder, though, confirmed he is not pursuing the Standard Liege stopper, who has been interesting Chelsea and Fulham.
He added: "I am aware of this player, but he is not a player I am trying to sign."
Move frustration for Luque
Newcastle United flop Albert Luque is set to miss out on a move to Villarreal, after the Spanish club agreed a deal for former Magpies striker Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Luque has been hoping to leave St James' Park during the January transfer window after being unable to make an impact under Glenn Roeder.
A loan move to PSV Eindhoven has already collapsed, but he had been lined up for a return to Spain with Villarreal.
However, the Yellow Submarines have now set up a deal to sign Tomasson on loan for the rest of the season from Stuttgart.
Magpies boss Roeder confirmed the deal is in the balance and now expects the £9.5million signing to be at the club for the start of next season.
"Luque's move to Villarreal is now very much in the balance because of the Jon Dahl Tomasson situation," Roeder told the Evening Chronicle.
"In fact, I would say that there has to be a big, big doubt that he will be moving there.
"The deal with PSV Eindhoven has also fallen through and there is no other club on the horizon.
"This being the case it looks as though Albert will be here not only for the rest of this season but also at the start of next season."
Luque has scored just three goals for Newcastle since joining from Deportivo La Coruna 18 months ago and has not started a Premiership game this season.
Emre denies FA charge
Newcastle United midfielder Emre has denied a Football Association charge of using racially-aggravated and/or insulting words against Everton last month.
The Turkey international has been brought to task over an alleged incident which took place in the Premiership clash on 30th December.
It is claimed Emre made racist comments, with Everton's Tim Howard, Joleon Lescott and Joseph Yobo all reacting furiously towards the player after Newcastle were awarded a penalty in the 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park.
Emre has always maintained his innocence since the allegations were made and has now requested a personal hearing.
Referee Dermot Gallagher did not hear the alleged comments and The FA called on Everton to provide further details about the offence.
The FA's official website issued a brief statement to confirm that Emre has denied the charge.
"Newcastle United's Belozoglu Emre has denied a charge of using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words and has requested a personal hearing."
Martins vows to improve
Obafemi Martins insists the best is yet to come from his time at Newcastle United, as he grows used to the rigours of the Premiership.
The Nigerian international moved to the North East in a £10million deal from Internazionale this summer, but it took until 17th September to break his duck for the club against West Ham United.
Since then, he has been in sparkling form for the club, scoring his 10th goal of the season with a stunning finish in the 3-2 victory at Tottenham Hotspur in his latest outing.
Having made the transition from life in Italy's Serie A, Martins is confident he can produce plenty more performances as his experience grows still further.
"I am not totally used to the English game yet, but I am only 22 and I believe I will get better and better," Martins explained.
"I have not found the pace of the Premiership a problem, but the physical side of the game is different.
"I didn't have the best of starts for Newcastle, but recently I have been playing well and I'm pleased with how things are going.
"I don't have a target and if I keep working hard, goals will come. I would certainly say to the Newcastle fans that the best of me is yet to come."
With Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi out for much, if not all, of the current season Glenn Roeder is reliant on his star man to lead the line in the Magpies' challenge.
Aston Villa are the next visitors to St James' Park on Wednesday, and Martins wants to set the score straight against Martin O'Neill's side, having suffered a 2-0 defeat at Villa Park at the end of August.
Martins was stretchered off in that game and he expects to redress the balance this time round on home territory.
"I remember getting injured, so I don't want to think about that game because it wasn't a good day for Newcastle and I didn't play that well," Martins told the club's website.
"I want to put that to the back of my mind and think about the next game with Aston Villa. It is important we get three points and climb the table."
Defender Titus Bramble and winger Damien Duff have meanwhile resumed training and could line up alongside Martins as early as the Villa match.
Magpies Danish link played down
Michael Gravgaard's agent has played down talk linking the player with a move to Newcastle.
Reports emanating from Scandinavia suggested Newcastle were lining up a move for the FC Copenhagen ace.
Magpies boss Glenn Roeder admitted earlier this week he was hopeful of signing an international defender this week fuelling suggestions that Gravgaard could be his target.
However, Gravgaard's representative Ivan Benes insists he has not had any contact with Newcastle regarding the Danish international.
"I have had no contact with Newcastle regarding Michael," Benes told skysports.com.
"He has been linked with a number of clubs in this transfer window.
"He is under a long contract with FC Copenhagen and it all depends on FC Copenhagen."
Any loan move for Gravgaard looks unlikely with FC Copenhagen not expected to be willing to let the player move away on a short-term deal
Owen looks to heal hamstring
Michael Owen is visiting a specialist in a bid to cure his hamstring problems.
The Newcastle striker is on the road to recovery from a serious knee injury suffered during last summer's World Cup.
While he continues his recuperation, Owen is hoping to heal a long-term problem with his right hamstring as well.
Kieron Dyer, also plagued by hamstring troubles, has enjoyed a run in the side since working with a specialist in London.
Owen is following in the midfielder's footsteps and hopes to be stronger than ever when he returns to action.
"Every step is a forward step," Magpies boss Glenn Roeder said.
"Michael has been to see a specialist in Bristol this week and with this break for his knee injury we are trying to strengthen his hamstrings, too.
"Michael can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and the light is growing every week."
Sibierski happy at Newcastle
Antoine Sibierski admits he is enjoying life at St James' Park.
The Frenchman, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City in August, has turned out to be one of Glenn Roeder's best signings.
The 32-year-old has chipped in with six goals this season and is proving a bit hit with the fans.
"I love it here," Sibierski told France Football.
"I was surprised to join a club like Newcastle considering my last season's performances with Manchester City.
"Without that deal I would have stayed at Manchester City, even if I didn't have a good relationship with the coach.
"When I came the fans were sceptical, but I shut my mouth and I have worked to show my qualities and it has paid off."
Roeder has been so impressed with Sibierski's contribution he is set to reward him with a 12-month contract extension.
"The officials are happy with me and the new deal will be settled next month," added the former Lens and Nantes midfielder.
Magpies back in for Babel
Reports in Holland are stating Newcastle have revived their interest in Ryan Babel and are ready to offer Albert Luque to Ajax to smooth a deal.
Babel is one of the brightest prospects in the Dutch system and has been courted by clubs around Europe ever since breaking onto the scene as a teenager.
The 20-year-old forward has repeatedly insisted he will remain with Ajax until at least the end of the season, but the two parties are at odds over a new contract.
Newcastle have been monitoring his situation for much of January and it is now being reported that they have opened up the lines of communication with Ajax.
The transfer window closes on Wednesday and time is running out for a deal to be struck, but reports sweeping Holland state Spanish striker Luque has been offered as bait.
Luque has failed to make any sort of impact on Tyneside and would relish a move, having seen a proposed switch to PSV Eindhoven flounder at the 11th-hour, and it is being reported talks are ongoing.
Magpies aim to Piq up striker
Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has confirmed his intention to land French striker Frederic Piquionne on loan from St Etienne.
The forward has been one of the most talked about players during January's transfer window, as the likes of Lyon, Paris Saint Germain, West Ham, Tottenham and Real Betis have all been credited with an interest.
Les Verts made a strong attempt to retain the services of the forward, but Piquionne made it clear that he fancied a new challenge.
It would appear that the forward is set to get his wish, with Newcastle jumping to the head of the chase.
Roeder is striving to beef up his squad and he has confirmed the club are looking to secure a loan deal with St Etienne.
Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu is also a target and Roeder said: "We want to take Onyewu and Piquionne on loan and we are now waiting for permission for their clubs to do so."
Newcastle have been strongly linked with a move for Ryan Babel, but it remains to be seen if a deal is pushed through with Ajax following the news of the interest in Piquionne.
Duff rubbishes rumours
Newcastle ace Damien Duff has rubbished rumours linking him with a move away from St James' Park.
Reports earlier this month linked the former Chelsea man with a possible move to Tottenham.
However, the Republic of Ireland international has moved to quash the rumours insisting he is happy on Tyneside.
"I'm going nowhere because I love it up here and I'm desperate to do well for the club," Duff told the club's official website.
Duff has endured a disappointing start to his Newcastle career with injuries disrupting his progress since arriving from Chelsea.
The flying winger is now closing in on a return to fitness and he is determined to show the Newcastle faithful his true worth in the remaining weeks of the season.
"Newcastle fans certainly haven't seen the best of me and it's been a very frustrating two months," added Duff.
"Even when I was playing before my injury I wouldn't say I was at my sharpest.
"I didn't really have a pre-season and it's only when I look back now that I realise I maybe was a yard off the pace.
"But I'm working hard to get back to my best and I'm sure the fans will see that."
Roeder happy with policy
Glenn Roeder claims he is happy with Newcastle's transfer dealings during the January window.
Despite expressing a desire to bring in both attacking and defensive reinforcements, Roeder was only able to sign American stopper Oguchi Onyewu on loan from Standard Liege.
Roeder had targeted a raft of promising talents but was unable to prise them away from their clubs and he claims this is a policy he would rather continue than settle on stop-gap solutions.
"There has to be some sort of business head put on," Roeder told the Daily Mirror. "There has to be constructive thinking outside of the short term of 'well he'll be okay for 12 months and then be worth nothing'.
"You just cannot gamble on the players who have got poor CVs. The players we targeted are still at their clubs.
"They've been of the younger age who would come to Newcastle and play for many years.
"We've not been able to prise them away but that doesn't mean we are not going back in the summer."
Gooch out to impress
Oguchi Onyewu claims he has realised a dream by joining Newcastle and is looking to repay the club by helping them achieve 'something special.'
The giant American defender secured a loan move to Newcastle from Standard Liege in January and is in line to make his debut against Fulham on Saturday.
Onyewu claims he always dreamed of winning a move to the Premiership and is determined to repay Newcastle for giving him his shot in England.
"To play in the Premier League was always an aspiration for myself and right now to be able to realise that dream is something special," he said on Sky Sports News.
"Apparently they have been keeping eyes on me for a while and thankfully I have been able to do enough to impress them and get a shot out here.
"Hopefully I won't let them down.
"With a club of this stature, the sky is the limit. I don't think you should put a limit on it.
"It is true we are not at the top of the table, but we are climbing and I think with the players we have got we can do something special."
