Sir Alex Ferguson believes it would be 'great' if Paul Scholes finished the season as Footballer of the Year.
The Manchester United stalwart has been enjoying a renaissance this term after missing several months of the last campaign with an eye problem.
He has been orchestrating many United attacks from midfield and has also chipped in with five goals, including a brace in the New Year's Day draw at Newcastle United.
His form has been pleasing Ferguson, who has been delighted with the way Scholes continues to demonstrate his talent.
The United manager also feels that the former England international would be a fitting winner of the Footballer of the Year accolade.
"I think everyone at the club and the supporters would be delighted if Paul got an honour," said Ferguson.
"He's scored five goals for me and that is up with the best of them in the country in that role.
"His football brain, and the football he produces at times, is marvellous.
"It would be great for him to get an award like that."
