Hertha Berlin defender Josip Simunic claims that Chelsea are looking to sign him.
The Blues are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after injuries and suspensions have decimated Jose Mourinho's squad.
Croatian star Simunic, 28, has now told the press in his homeland that Chelsea are indeed looking to land him.
"I know of Chelsea's interest in purchasing me," he told Vecernji List.
"But that is the only thing I can say.
"Hertha will have the last word on any transaction."
Simunic is contracted to the capital club until 2011 and reports suggest it would take an €8million (£5.1million) bid to secure his signature.
Chelsea are already known to be keeping close tabs on the likes of Micah Richards and Tal Ben Haim - so a defensive signing this month does look a likely option for Mourinho.
