Javier Mascherano has told West Ham United that he needs to leave the club this month.
The Argentine has struggled to settle in East London since joining The Hammers in August and is now hoping to leave Upton Park.
The 22-year-old has started just three league games since joining from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.
"I have to leave," he told Spanish daily Equipo.
"I can't spend any more time like this, without playing. I can't allow my career to go stagnant at my age.
"I came to England in order to succeed, but I have not been given the chances I need to do so."
Juventus have already suggested that they will not pursue their interest in Mascherano because of his complicated contract situation, as he is actually owned by investment group MSI, along with compatriot Carlos Tevez.
Liverpool and Real Zaragoza are also heavily linked and a move to Spain could appeal.
Argentine international Gabriel Milito wants Mascherano to join him at Zaragoza.
"Mascherano wants to come to Spain and it would be fantastic if he were to sign for Zaragoza. He's a great player, a complete player," he said.
