Aston Villa midfielder Gavin McCann has called for a change in the rules to offer players more protection from suspension.
McCann has been cautioned seven times already this season but he believes he has often been booked for very insignificant offences.
He wants referees to cut down on the amount of cards they dish out, or to increase the number of bookings before a second suspension during a season from 10 to 15.
McCann feels it is up to the authorities to act, as he does not believe players should have to change their style.
"You touch some lads in the game, they roll over and I end up getting booked. I think the authorities have to look at things one way or another," he urged.
"Last Saturday I committed two fouls and ended up getting booked because they are rolling around. A lot of lads will end up getting booked this season just for trying to win the ball.
"You will mistime things now and again. It's weird but I'm not changing the way I play. They'll have to change the rules. That's the only way.
"We maybe need 15 yellow cards before you get banned for a second time as players are getting booked for nothing."
