Manchester United have made a late bid to sign Michael Kightly, according to Grays Athletic.
The highly-rated winger is currently on loan at Wolves and is due to complete a permanent move to Molineux when the transfer window reopens.
Kightly has impressed during his early weeks in the Championship, scoring twice in four appearances.
His displays have alerted Premiership leaders United, who have been in contact with Grays this week in the hope of fixing up a deal.
But the Conference club's chairman Mick Woodward has knocked back the interest, having already agreed terms with Wolves.
"United have expressed a lot of interest in Michael this week," Woodward told the Sun.
"They have made a number of enquiries.
"They asked if we could do a deal, but I told them I'd already agreed a deal with Wolves and I wouldn't go back on my word.
"Michael is an old-fashioned winger - the Ryan Giggs of non-league. He's got an eye for goal, too."
