Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has suffered another setback after being told that veteran striker Chris Sutton faces several weeks on the sidelines with an eye injury.
The 33-year-old former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic forward missed the Boxing Day defeat at Tottenham after complaining of blurred vision and tests have revealed a bruised retina.
"Chris will be out for several weeks, which would be a blow at any time, but it's made all the worse with our current injury situation," O'Neill told the club's official website.
"He took a bang to the head against Manchester United last Saturday and was struggling with blurred vision. The only thing we can do with this injury is give him time to rest."
Sutton has scored one goal in nine appearances for Villa since his surprise move to Villa Park in October.
Mark Delaney, Luke Moore, Stuart Taylor and Martin Laursen are currently on the long-term injury list while Stiliyan Petrov, Aaron Hughes, Olof Mellberg and Stuart Taylor are all expected to miss this weekend's game against Charlton Athletic.
