Karl Svensson says Rangers have no excuse for their defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle and the team are simply "not good enough".
The Sweden international hit back at the critics who suggested he and the other new arrivals at Ibrox are at the root of the problem, saying the players have had long enough to settle in and the whole team must work harder if they are to improve.
Svensson is one of five players new boss Paul Le Guen introduced over the summer to have failed to impress during the 2-1 defeat, which leaves Rangers two points behind Aberdeen in third place.
"We have been here for five months so there is no excuse," he said. "You can say that this game was not good enough and we have not settled in right, but I think we have played a lot better in the last two months.
"We are 11 players on the pitch and maybe it is new players trying to gel, but I think we are not good enough as a team. We didn't work hard enough together and that is why we lost the game."
Svensson also rejected claims that the problem is a result of a split in the dressing room.
"We have shown in the last couple of games that we have a good spirit. We had a team talk when we played against Celtic and we had some good performances after that, which I think showed we have a great spirit together.
"I have been in a lot of teams where there are groups and it is always like that because everybody is not always with everybody else."
