Hi all, good to see a Thailand forum here.
For the past hours, I've came up with the places i wanted to go (the shopping places already kill me ). But there are some places im in doubt....
1) RCA.
I read around the forum and ratchadapisek(soi17)
said (from his threads on clubs.... here http://www.sgforums.com/forums/2503/topics/213467) that the nearest station is Ratchadaphisek subway station. But on the map the nearest station to RCA i saw is Phra Ram 9 subway station. Anyone to confirm this? Lol....
2) Ratchada?
This is really noob but, is Ratchada = Ratchadaphisek ?
I never see the name Ratchada in the map ever.
3) Chinatown
How do i get there? To confirm, is it near Yaowarat
Road? That means i'd alight at Hua Lamphong station.
If yes, Bo-bae Market is nearby right?
4) Patpong
I heard of this but I don't know where is it. Haha. Any exact subway station or BTS?
Famous stuffs there are the Patpong Market and Thai girl shows right?
5) Opening hours of the clubs / Some others
Most close at 2am? So early lol. And is Sky Beach Bar Lounge at Sukhumvit good to go? Main aim is to watch Netherlands vs France and Italy vs Romania on June 14.... LOL. But they say close at 3am.... goodness. So early again.
6) Sight-Seeing
I've included Erawan Shrine (4 faced buddha right), Wat Pathum Wanaram (near my hotel ), Wat Pho Maen (i dont know but seem famous).... in my list.Any particular site that is worth going?
I'm the one who do the planning for the trip, so would like to include some sites so that my friends will not get bored from shoppin.
7) Free entry of most clubs in RCA??
My friend showed me some links on the club reviews. Most state there is free entry? Never state the day tho. They are Flix, Slim and Route66. Is it really free?
Any help is very much appreciated, thank you! Goin this Friday. Hope to get as much replies as possible b4 i go off
nearest station is Phra Ram 9 but if u are going clubbing, i suggest u take a cab.
Ratchada = ratchadapisek, no one calls is ratchadapisek there.
yaowarat is a short walking distance from hua lamphong station. bo bae is up north i think, but if u wanna shop wholesale there, go in the wee hours. like 4am or something.
patpong is at silom
clubs close at 2am and there are other clubs that close at 4am. if u wanna watch football u can try your luck at the pubs along sukhumvhit
the club entries are free, u can go in walk around and walk out, briing your ID. liquor is cheap.
there are other things to do
things u would do in singapore.
go watch a movie (remember to stand up when they play the video to honour the king)
go bowling, go ice skating.
that is what i do sometimes.
u can go chao praya river...
honestly, i don't do touristy stuff anymore.
hey...their MRT is more expensive then cab and tuk tuk, take tuk tuk if u travel during the day and if u club till late at nite, take cab lor. however if ur going to the river and sightsee...take the train and then switch to cab or tuk tuk, saves time.
I wanna ask...if alight at Huat Lamphong area, how far need to walk to reach Yaowarat Road?

that's because the MRT goes one big round. taking a cab will cut across everything.
then again, u have to endure the jams.
take a cab if u have more than 2 people, money wise it makes more sense.
i go alone, so i take the MRT and enjoy the smooth trip.

hmmmm i usually takes me about... 10 mins.
get out of the MRT, turn right... walk straight and cross the junction (hua lamphong train station should be on your right), walk until a Y-junction then take the left road, walk straight and u should be able to see bright neon lights along the road, that's yaowarat.

Ok, seems reasonable distance...
Got any MRT from Khao San to Hua Lamphong?
Btw, off topic, do you still do wedding photography?
always rmb, take cabs that allow u to charge by meter. if i not wrong, is green and yellow and 1 is pink cab. otherwise u kena carrot. the place mahbungkong( dont kno how to spell) actually not say very cheap also. best is go to the flea market, friend say its so farkign cheap he spend most of his money on there. haha
ive always wanted to take a boat ride along the chao river but always not enuf time... how is it ah? fun anot?

nope, khao san itself doesn't have any train station. u gotta grab a tuk tuk / cab
weddings? nope, i do more portraits now, pre-wedding can. but i don't shoot romantic photos. i only do weddings for people i know... because i don't provide prints. hahaha~

i've never experienced cabs that try to cheat my money nor have i taken non metered cabs before.
u don't have to look at the colour, just make sure the top of the cab says "metered taxi" and the guy switches on the meter when u get in.
u want to get things cheap u go buy wholesale. the more you buy, the cheaper. i go there, i end up buying 1 or no t-shirts at all. so a 99THB shirt is no issue to me.

if you're a tourist and want to do some sight seeing, then just take a boat down.
my definition of fun is going clubbing at night.

hmm.... so i was right, because the nearest station i saw on map is Phra Ram 9.. lol. Yea prob take cab there.... since train is more expensive eh.
ok i know how to know le....
as im planning the route.. i think more or less i can rem most of their shoppin malls names liaos, roughly what they sell and aga aga which station.. BTS or subway.... i think thats the good thing as a planner
hey, thanks a lot! haha. good leh free entry first night must party liaos
hmm, is the exchange rate better there (Thailand) than local? thats what i've heard
thanks peeps for the suggestions too!
rainee also goin ar.. hehe
RCA - is very far from the MRT stations, and is much much nearer to Param 9/Thai cultural Center stations.
Ratchadaphisek station is already near to Lat Phrao - very far away from RCA
==============
Rachada is short for Thanon ("Thanon" is "road" in Thai, "Soi" is "lane") Ratchadaphisek
===============
Don't go to Pat Pong, if you want to visit a-go-go bars, go to Soi Cowboy (Soi 23, Sukhumvit, between BTS (skytrain) stations Asoke and Phrom Phong or Nana Plaza (Soi 4, Sukhumvit, BTS (skytrain) station Nana.)
But to get to Pat Pong, you stop at MRT Silom station or BTS Sala Daeng (interchange at Siam station, change to BTS line going towards Saphan Thaksin Station, if you are on the Sukhumvit line)
==================
Yes the bars close early since Thaksin came to power and that is why he had to be kicked out - he was becoming like LKY, intolerable)
==================
Chinatown is not "near" Yaowarat Road... Yaowarat Road and trhe surrounding roads make up Chinatown
==================
To watch football, you should go to Gulliver's Tavern, Sukhumvit Soi 5 Sukhumvit, BTS (skytrain) station Nana.) It is about 5 minutes walk, on the right from the BTS station along Soi 5
==================
as for sightseeing, there is a solid gold Buddha at the temple just outside the main Chinatown area...
hey thanks for the suggestion
lol.... im goin off now!
hey im back last night.... lol
spent a lot a lot a lot a lot on shoppin....
kopio: a BIG pity, i didnt manage to go Flix and all those clubs along the road, because my friend is underage but im not.... i cant possibly leave my friend alone.... their age limit is 20.. we knew that but i thought they might be lenient to tourists. I was surprised they are actually very strict because my friend is just few months away to 20. And she also dressed until very sexy but cannot also I talk talk talk also canot so no choice we left but on the way try some pubs (simi Molly Bar and another is i forgot) that play thai disco music and some weird ones
1 thing i like bout their clubs is, you can hear the music from outside and they are link together like shop houses? So if you get into either one you can walk to another?
HOWEVER, we decided to go Hollyhood to try our luck so we took a cab down and it was a pretty nice place i think.... lol. The staffs were very helpful too. Also ask us if we will come again but too bad, no time so we only went once.

Yea. But i rem once, i wanted to go back from Hollywood to my hotel, this driver said midnight no meter? So he quote us 100.
As i was tired and drunk and wanted to go back asap, i said ok. But later i thought it was a scam
Just wondering guys, Midnight got no meter??
Another qn is, if it's 11+pm, 12am, 1am, the meter will jump double is it?
i notice that on a cab trip
Yea that flea market made me spend a lot lol! Chatuchak.... we kept buyin wholesale lol
no such thing as no meter.
but if u stay really near, its not profitable for the guy.
so if i desperately want to get a cab. i'll quote him a price instead.

its like going to MOS. that's the big club concept at RCA for now.
erm... hollywood... is not a place for me... though the red label is cheap, about 600-700THB

It is midnight.. so he doesnt want meter....
Another experience is, the meter jumps double? is it something like our midnight charge? i noticed it jumped 2x
