Going Thailand lo! some Questions..

where u guys freq or change ur thai baht? which offer good rate
if i were to use mastercard there...isit advisable? n the tax high or not huh?
im going for 1 week..
housing n food ( prolly 3 meals a day ) are provided..
how much should i change? then consider safe?
not gonna buy any branded stuff..maybe just some house brand(u dont find in sg) or some extra food to bite on...
then maybe some on entertainment..

I'll change maybe S$100 in sg to thai babt here. I'll change the rest at thailand itself. Think exchange rate better. Got many competing money changers. But keep ur sg cash properly, if too large amount, kana catch will have tax.
I'll also bring 2 credit cards along from different banks. But I'll not use them unless necessary. Credit txn overseas is based on VISA/MASTERCARD's exchange rate, which usually not very good one. -
hmm...thats what i think too...bring some sgd there then not enough change there..
but dont want trouble them..say halfway no money then need find $ changer..or lend from them..

my fren just back from HK she said...the credit card tax only alittle..
but for thailand..dontknow so gotta ask.. -

remember to bargain, slash price to 30% of selling price when buying things n max at 50% otherwise u be robert liao
can change the whole wardrobe
i nearly bought a suit consisting of a jacket, a shirt, a tie n a pant there, for $180, the quality is gd lah though it is not really branded stuff. -

then not sure if my fren gonna bring us to any else where not..
anway..extend to 10 days liao.. -
If you like shopping, can try Muang Bu Kong Square (MBK Square) near Siam Square, Hard Rock Bangkok is also located at Siam Square... If want a bit upclass, can try Siam Paragon...
If you like handicrafts, can try Suan Lum Night Bazaar, also got a ferris wheel can take...
Alternatively, can also go Chi Tu Chak for shopping...
If you plan to be there for a week, can prepare yourself about $500 SGD (exchange rate now about $22.80)...
Also try not to use your credit cards at the small non-established shops and stalls as they are not secured... -
not much diff in the exchange rate unless you are talking about a big sum.

I would prefer to use cash than credit card actually, tax is tax. I'm not willing for fork out any extra money that can buy me a meal.
I usually bring at least $700.
and please define entertainment, because what kind of entertainment you want to go for will be decided by the size of your pocket.
food, you can get fried rice from 20-50baht. some places maybe even cheaper? -

I just came back last sunday....i changed $900...although half of it is for my tailored shirts and pants haha...its cheap there esp if you can find a trusted tailor.....
i went to Bangkok at least once every year and for shopping, for guys, i think $400 is enough. If really not enough, no problems, money changers are everywhere and their rates are as good as Singapore, if not sometimes better.
If you have local frens better lah, they know where to bring you to eat where the tourists have not invaded and prices are much cheaper for good quality.

1. The rates in Singapore are better (change at little Thailand, Golden Mile complex, beach road...) there in Bangkok, only banks can money change... Singapore, Money Changers and not just banks can change for you.
2. Eat at restaurants (average) not five star hotel restaurants.. for two people about 1000 baht (S$43)... food court about 100 bahts / person
3. 500 baht airport tax
4. Entertainment.... hmmmm what do you mean? Go to a lounge, sit down and listen to music or naughty stuff? Beer at Hard Rock cafe is about 200 baht per bottle / drink. Other places much less and can be even 60 bahts (no live bands)
Other than that, how much you change depends on what / how much you want to buy.... -

i only go once a year for shopping and another once or twice for work....
