  Standby 500baht.
  
  There is a counter at the departure gate. You need to go hand in 500baht to the counter gal inside, get your receipt before you can proceed into the departure area.

  So whatever happens, having extra bahts on you before you leave thailand is the safest bet.
  
  500 baht is like S$20/-.
  
  Treat it as a form of secuirity that you leave any country with some local currency that hopefully is enough for some more shopping at the DFS or a meal before you fly.

From 25th March onwards, local departure taxes will be pre-collected by the airline for departure from Vietnam, and the following Thailand airports - Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, and Phuket."

  Me just came back from Bangkok new airport... Me never standby any 500 bahts or pay any airport tax wor... Me just walked through the gates with ease...
  
  By the way, me went from 09 March to 14 March wor...

  after February no need liao...i book Jetstar that time last year october, they tell me after February, the airport tax will be increased to 700 bahts but it will be factored into the air tix price.

  i'm not sure if this applies to other airports, but at suvarnabhumi, watch out for the bottleneck at the security area especially during evening flights
