hi..everyone.im from malaysia and i wish to have a night cycling trip from ECP to orchard road.so..any suggestion on the accommodation and route of cycling?we are going in a small group about 7 to 10 persons
route of cycling:-
marine parade rd
amber rd
mountbatten rd
sims way
geylang rd
sims ave
kallang rd
victoria st
rochor rd
bukit timah rd
scotts rd
orchard rd
(this is route w/o going onto the ecp highway and nicoll highway becos i think cyclists can't go on these roads)
nicoll highway can la...only expressway(marked as dark orange on street directory) disallows cycling. But then, there's a saying, can do anything dun get caught.
can stay hotel 81 joo chiat
can get to ECP easily
(take bus no. 16)
more expensive will be paramount hotel, also in the east, near ECP and Parkway Parade
i have to remind TS, cycling on Shears bridge(which is part of ECP) is uphill task..
dun confuse people, dun go on ECP highway
it's not allowed
TS, don't confuse East Coast Park (seaside park) with East Coast Parkway (the expressway). Both are parallel and along the sea.
If you are coming from East Coast Park, follow the park all the way to Fort Road Flyover. You can cycle under East Coast Parkway here and cycle along Fort Road to...
Mountbatten Road...
Nicoll Highway (which is not an epressway despite the name. Cycling on road is permitted and there are pavements too)...
[if cycling on pavement] Bras Basah Road... which becomes Orchard Road...
[if cycling on road] Stamford Road... which becomes Penang Road... which becomes Somerset Road... which is next to Orchard Road.
(There are also many underpasses to cross under East Coast Parkway.)
*Choose between Bras Basah road and Stamford Road only because they are one-way roads but in different directions.
*Roads and pavements through Geylang are congested and difficult / dangerous to travel on bicycle
Cycling on roads in Singapore is dangerous.
Even when the whole group is "light up like a Christmas tree".
There is a reason why bicycle riders flout the law and ride on pavements.

What mancha meant is don't cycle on Singapore roads.
I used to cycle long distance on the roads in the past, but nowadays, I only cycle on the pavement, as traffic is too heavy for safe cycling on the road.
