no i got this from this spycatcher book I had when i was a kid. In essence I've known how to read this cipher since I was 5 or 6.

Yeah... you can twist the cipher to make it harder... or even reverse the whole thing... -

Nah... not true. They were first used by elites around the world, meaning you are a professional in a particular subject. But it only got popular with the computer geeks, some of whom are hackers. To prevent newbies from stealing their work and understanding what they say, they choose to write in this way. Nowadays, it's a heavily modified teens language. I've to say I never caught up with it, don't ask me now.
