So The Great Norman Keep is Cardif Castle? Is it the main castle?
Cardiff Castle consists of many parts including the great Norman Keep within it, the Black Tower which includes the entranceway, the Victorian era buildings by William Burges, and the Roman ruins which have been incorporated into the 17th Centuary section.
There is no main castle per se. Most English castles have some norman ruins or keep within them. Bearing in mind that castle sites were choosen due to a strategic advantage, often later castles are built over earlier castles or incorporates them into the later castle designs. Other examples i've visited include the Tower of London, with a central great norman keep that is still in use today, and Warwick Castle with the ruins of the Norman Keep to the northeastern corner of the castle. Later I will show u Swansea Castle and Pennard Castle which were both Norman castles which were used well into the 19th and 16th centuary respectively before being abandoned to their fates.
