The Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra consists of 10 famous musicians from the China Conservatory of Music – Liu Shun (Music Director), Yang Jing (Pipa), Shen Cheng (Huqin), Zhang Zunlian (Erhu), Zhao Chengwei (Sanxian), Wei Wei (Liuqin/Ruan), Jiao Shanlin (Percussion), Yang Lin (Guzheng), Wang Hua (Dizi) and Luo Yuan (Yang Qin).

Afternoon 3pm:Poetic Harmonies《诗情�韵》 (Solos & small ensemble works)
This performance includes solos and small ensemble performances where individual musicians will showcase their virtuosity. Works include a melodious guzheng piece High Mountain and Flowing Waters, a delicate pipa solo piece A Moonlit Night on the Spring River, an erhu solo piece on the sorrow of parting Three Variations on the Yangguan Pass, Faint Fragrance, a piece that reminisces on the past performed by a plucked string quintet, and Autumn Yearning by the Dresser, a melancholic dialogue between the xiao and guzheng.

Evening 7.30pm:Dreams by the Plum Blossoms 《梅边四梦》 (Full ensemble works)
The richness of Chinese traditional music will be on display in this performance featuring Chinese traditional classics as well as newly composed contemporary works, showcasing the best of Chinese musical culture through the classics with a modern touch. Among the traditional works featured are the ancient piece Jackdaws Frolicking in the Water, the Beijing opera piece Deep in the Night, and Teochew folk music piece Temple of Fu De. Young promising contemporary composers from China are also featured with Wang Danhong’s Dreams by the Plum Blossoms and Zou Hang’s Drunk Dancing Devarajas
