  Hwa Chong Institution (College Section) Chinese Orchestra will be holding its bi-annual concert at the Singapore Conference Hall. The orchestra boasts of a group of 80-odd enthusiastic junior musicians and is recognized as one of the premier Chinese orchestras at the junior college level. Last year, the orchestra brought home the Gold-with-Honours award at the SYF Central Judging. This concert will include numerous pieces to look forward to such as the impressive, 4 movement-long ¡¶µÚÒ»Î÷±±×éÇú¡·by Tan Dun, as well as individual sectional performances.

  The big guys defer to the young ‘uns here, when the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s youth arm takes over in a full evening of solo and orchestral works. Showcase vehicles of choice: Peng Xiuwen’s arrangement of the Shifan Luogu drumming classic, The General’s Command, Kuan Nai-chung’s Journey to Lhasa, Zhao Jiping’s Peace Ode and a brand new commission from composer Gao Weijie. There will also be two surprise concerto offerings featuring young musicians specially selected over previous months of intensive workshops with SCO’s pros.
