Yeah, you can put 2 plates on the Smith machine to do bench dont mean a sh-it...dont mean you can do 2 plates on a barbell.Originally posted by eagle:machine workouts do work to a certain extent. However, in certain cases, it may damage your joints, and you will reach a plateau very fast.
One of the differences between free weights and machine is the usage of stabilizing muscles (bench press). You may be able to push 70kg or above using machines, but when you do with a barbell, you will most likely be shaking at an empty barbell. The muscles that make it not shake is your stabilizing muscles.
What are you afraid of?Originally posted by fwert:Ohh.. okay. Thnx for the help Marco_Simone and eagle.. Seems i gotta hit the free weights section of the gym, which i usually avoid cos of all the pros.. ahah
Question! : When you say you bench 60kg (freeweight), Do you always count the weight of the barbell?Originally posted by Marco_Simone:Yeah,you can put 2 plates on the Smith machine to do bench dont mean a sh-it...dont mean you can do 2 plates on a barbell.
The bar on the Smith is NOT 20kg,so dont think you put 2 plates on it,you are benching 60kg. I think the bar is only 10kg,furthermore,the lack is stabilization is another 10kg gone.So when you bench 2 20kg plates on the Smith, you are maybe doing only 40kg!
When you been doing machines and decide to switch to free weights, you will be as weak as a kitten, you can bet your ass on that statement.
As for machines increasing your bodyweight, they cant do much in the long run.
yes. The barbell is 20kg (that Olympic thick barbell, not the thin version)Originally posted by S.KCH:Question! : When you say you bench 60kg (freeweight), Do you always count the weight of the barbell?
Only if it's a standard olympic collar. Those are 2.5kg a piece. Most gyms don't use those though, but rather the plastic or metal spring types, which can be disregarded weight weight.Originally posted by manyu882:and also rmb to include the olympic barbell nut weight
