Yup, your yoga teachers know nuts. Try and do a proper full squat without your knee protruding beyond your toes. Squating is a even bigger issue for people who has knee injuries or old people generally. Climbing the stairs is also not good for your knees because it involves some bending, i guess. Doctors always advise people with knee injuries not to climb upslope etc.
