There's no need to be so anal about the numbers. Most studies that look at the "ideal" amount of protein to consume have the following study properties
1) Subjects are sedentary folks
2) "Ideal" amount is taken as the point of nitrogen balance
These are not applicable to active individuals, especially people who strength train, because we are not sedentary, and neither do we only want to be at the point of nitrogen balance. We want to be in positive nitrogen balance, meaning we need to take more to support our strength training.
