You should always challenge yourself - but in this case pushing up the weight may not always be the right thing to do.
Never sacrifice form and technique! This should be your first rule.
A spotter is only used to save you - they should NEVER touch the bar unless you are unable to perform the movement. Any rep that they touch the bar on is not counted.
