Sorry but did you even read the article on straits times on strength training 2 weeks ago.Even the diehard aerobics people lamented that the people who spent less time in the weight room looked leaner than them.Originally posted by mhcampboy:what i meant in a more technical term is.... aerobics meanin... exercising with oxygen.... ermm.. tat means.. sumtin u do hard to "challenge" your heart and lungs.. example.. running...
anaerobics means... without oxygen.... a short intense workout.. like weightlifting...
so yeah.. lose the fats first with "aerobics"
After proper gyming for 2 mths , your frenz will be used to the weight and more or less the very , very basic foundation is there. He can continue to lift heavier and he will be like a ' little millionaire ' , burning fat every minute.Originally posted by Seth35:But he told me the doc told him hes average overweight....
Hes not round....just big size
Eh he can jog 6.6km Lol....bishan park 2 rounds.... Lol
But actually how long does it take to lose 5 kg ?
army? heard from someone that excessive cardio burns muscle, not fats.Originally posted by Seth35:Besides Gym....I feel army is the only another way to lose weight...
And we are the type that want results now....
Yes. I experience that before , it was damn scary. All the efforts in gym were gone.Originally posted by purez:army? heard from someone that excessive cardio burns muscle, not fats.
Is it possible for this to be the reason that you find it hard to sleep after exercise because your heart rate remains high?Originally posted by Simon Dean:Not a big fan of jogging.I prefer to do bodyweight calisthenics intervals instead.
You are going to do a lot of running in the army , they are not going to train you in an athelete-like manner. Just be mentally prepared.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Sorry but did you even read the article on straits times on strength training 2 weeks ago.Even the diehard aerobics people lamented that the people who spent less time in the weight room looked leaner than them.
Weight training will cause a metabolic disturbance and the issue with EPOC(Excess post exercise oxygen consumption)for even up to 48 hours. Then also the surge in testerone which is a great fat burner.

Infact the optimal way IMHO is to lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously.
Muscles are a good tool for fat loss.
HIIT for 2.4km probably would work, but probably not till 4km.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Once i can manage HIIT properly, running would be piece of cake.
I am sure you need more mental toughness to perserve an interval workout where your muscles cry out for a massage!Originally posted by eagle:HIIT for 2.4km probably would work, but probably not till 4km.
I believe it would improve overall stamina, but if you hv never run a longer distance, your mental endurance will not last long enough for you to finish the jog. I'm sure you know how important mental concentration is in any exercise
No, it functions differently. Jogging calls for different types of mental usage.Originally posted by Simon Dean:I am sure you need more mental toughness to perserve an interval workout where your muscles cry out for a massage!
I finished my school's X country top 10 last year.Originally posted by eagle:No, it functions differently. Jogging calls for different types of mental usage.
Furthermore, for an interval workout, your mental concentration only need to last for 8-10 mins, whereas for a 4km run, you need to concentrate for 20 mins (for fast speed, not for relaxing pace). In interval, what your brain reads is: It's going to finish in that few tens of seconds more. In jogging, you may want to stop or slow down to a more comfortable pace constantly, something which may make people fail 2.4km.
Treat jogging as something that challenges your muscles and mental strength in a different way from interval workouts or gym workouts.
you can continue with purely 8-10 mins of interval training without any other joggingOriginally posted by Simon Dean:I finished my school's X country top 10 last year.
Sorry, but you still want to bury your face in the sand. There are multiple examples all around the world. There are people who lift kettlebells and took part in marathons.Originally posted by eagle:you can continue with purely 8-10 mins of interval training without any other jogging
give 2 yrs and we will see if u can still do it
to add on, i would consider normal slightly longer distance jogging as a good way to practice how to pace yourself to maintain your stamina evenly over the distance.
I'm not going to say who's right or wrong. Whether it is burying my face in the sand, you can test it out long term. I have told you my views, and I stick to my view that you need the occasional jogging to help you maintain your slightly-longer-distance speed. The way you breathe, the way you control your steps (read up on chi-running), the way you pace yourself, all matters.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Sorry, but you still want to bury your face in the sand. There are multiple examples all around the world. There are people who lift kettlebells and took part in marathons.
Another reason, you so called feel less tired after years of jogging is because your heart downsizes itself so it can go longer with less fuel.
I think maybe that's why there are cases of army personnel died but not SCDF personnel and other uniform groups.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Sorry, but you still want to bury your face in the sand. There are multiple examples all around the world. There are people who lift kettlebells and took part in marathons.

It doesnt matter because the adverse health effects will still take place.Originally posted by eagle:add one more note:
4-6km is not exactly long distance jogging. Try to do 4km within < 19 mins.... would you consider that jogging? Or is that some other term?
I was thinking whether you meant jogging as a longer timed exercise.
This is what is really called putting your face in the sand. You are just plain lazy to go for a 20 min jog, and thus find articles to prove otherwise. There are easily many real-life examples (Note: Not research, is real life walking examples) that gym is bad for joints too. Yet why do we still do it? Cause we know that things do to a certain extent will not cause harm, but good.Originally posted by Simon Dean:It doesnt matter because the adverse health effects will still take place.
exactly! This is what I trying to say. Jogging is bad for health? See your form first.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Many people dont even have the proper biomechanics to begin with, try fixing that first. You can jog to your death for all i care!
Gym is bad for joints?I would like to see their form first.
I was talking on the effect of the heart not on the joints.Originally posted by eagle:exactly! This is what I trying to say. Jogging is bad for health? See your form first.
