Coz it makes the working muscles pump up like a balloon...furthermore high reps will give you more burn and greater soreness the day after...and people will feel shiok from that, makes them think they are doing it right.
But remember it is just a pumped up balloon...
Nevertheless, high rep sets have their place in any training protocol.I myself train 5 sets per exercise and the last set is a "relatively high" 10-12 rep one.
By the way, there is this guy who has the same arm size as me.His looks slightly more defined too. All he does for arm are curls and pressdowns.Hence there is some truth that "bodybuilding" training programs can build some decent size. But wait, how much he uses for his curls??? Last night,I saw him curling a 20kg barbell in jerking form...
I can do 5 chin ups in good form with a 20kg plate attached to my waist.Now that's my 87kg(my bodyweight)+2kg(dip belt+shoes+everything else I wear)+20kg worth of plates...almost 110kg...
My arms and back are pulling 110kg,now do you think my arms won't grow with this???
So who is "nice to look at,not nice to eat"/hao3 kan4 bu3 hao3 chi3???
