NFFT: How did you pick up bodybuilding?
Jordan : My passion in bodybuilding started at the tender age of 16. I love the pump when I train. And since then, it has become my lifestyle. At age 19, I did my first competition - Muscle War 1997. During this 14 years of training, I painstakingly fine tune my training and dieting regime through trial, error and experimentation to improve my physique. I had a victorious win in the NUS Fitness & Muscle War as the champion in 2004.
NFFT: How do you feel when you are being selected to represent Singapore in the SEA games?
Jordan : Surprised! I couldn’t believe it. I was apprehensive at first but now I am ready for it. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t come in the top 3 positions. But I guess the judges have seen the potential in me. So I am ready to give my next best shot.
NFFT: What objectives did you set for this competition?
Jordan : Bodybuilding is a very subjective sport. Each time you diet down for a competition, your body responds differently. I just want to do my best in every competition I am in. Even if I should fail, I shall not despair as I know I have done my best.
NFFT: How is your preparation for the competition?
Training
Jordan : I train 3 days on 2 days off. I incorporate cardiovascular into my training schedule at least 3 – 4 times per week. When the contest draws closer I will add additional cardio in the morning to tighten myself up especially in the abdominal area.
I cycle different training principles like drop sets, pyramid sets, superset and giant set to “shock” my muscles.
Nutrition
Jordan : I eat as often as I can, at least 6-7 meals per day. Like any other bodybuilders, chicken breast, steak, fish and eggs are my staples diet.
I’m a firm believer of Atkins diet. In fact I follow strictly to Dr Atkins dietary plans to lose weight.
High fat on butter, red meat, chicken thigh meat, EFAs like Flaxseed for my weight loss program, eliminating carbs completely.
Coming close to my competition, I’ll cut back on my sodium and carbo load to fill up my glycogen.
Despite doing Atkins, I never forego greens in my diet. They are essential for healthy bowels movements and contain anti-oxidants properties too.
Supplements
Jordan : My recommendations:
MAN Vaporize
Nutri-Forefront Whey Blend
Primaforce Glutaform
Primaforce ZMA
Primaforce Fuze (Tribulus)
Primaforce Thermal Rage
Syntrax Swole V2
Syntrax R ALA
Supplements are essential when you are dieting down for competition. Supplements enhance your recovery and energize you before hitting the gym.
NFFT: What are the challenges you faced during your preparation?
Jordan : Juggling between a full time job and bodybuilding is not easy. Further more, dieting can cause you to be temperamental at times and frustrations built up easily. Fortunately with my friends, family support and understanding, I overcome the odds. Just a side note, I will include one junk meal over the weekend just to curb my sanity. Ha…
NFFT: Have your expectations been met?
Jordan : As long as I can, I would want to compete in more show and win my first international event.
NFFT: What would you like to see the future of Bodybuilding in Singapore?
Jordan : More media coverage and sponsorship. We work really hard and without good sponsors and supplements endorsement, the athletes can’t go far.
NFFT: Any encouragement words or advice for those who are keen to participate in competition?
Jordan : Build up a strong foundation first before deciding to enter your first competition. To compete, it’s a lot of hard work and determination.
You need lots of blessing from family and love ones in order to achieve the dreams you want to be.
