While he is strong, it is unfair of you to compare his strength levels to those of a bodybuilder, for the prime reason being that they have different methods and ways of training. You don't compare apples to durians, do you?Originally posted by Simon Dean:hes a strength coach who coaches basketball players who are teenagers. He is even stronger than those local bodybuilders who are like 2x his size.

just debuking the common preception of strength=size, more massive= more strength kind of thinking.Originally posted by Enigmatic1:While he is strong, it is unfair of you to compare his strength levels to those of a bodybuilder, for the prime reason being that they have different methods and ways of training. im sure you dont grow durians and apples the same way so to speak..Originally posted by Enigmatic1:While I know your intentions were good, you don't necessarily have to debunk common perception because people will always want to see what they want to see.
Coffeeortea,
We are talking about a comparison here between a strength and conditioning coach versus a competitive bodybuilder. The training methods of both will differ no matter how you want to rationalise it with yourself.
You obviously don't understand the use of metaphors.

That said, some bodybuilders started out as weightlifters. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbo started out as weightlifters. Same goes for Ronnie Coleman and Johnnie Jackson. There is a large amount of carryover, but IMO, you have to specialise to be really successful in either bodybuilding and weightlifting.
