That's the question I ask the pro shop... I was told..why not...it can have more pin reaction at the back end. My current ball is a "plastic ball" bought long long time agoOriginally posted by richieleo:the Cherry Vibe is a reactive ball. If you are a straight bowler, why would you need a reactive ball?
Maybe the proshop owner wanna chop you some money. Cos the possibility of you getting a new plastic ball is low.Originally posted by unique1:That's the question I ask the pro shop... sorry for my ignorance...do you mean that if my ball never hook a bit at the end...there will not be much diff btw the plastic and the Hammer??Originally posted by unclebutcher:erm. not much difference if you are a straight bowler, the core only generates power at teh end if u hook it with revolutions.
no, plastic balls are more stable. if you are straight bowler i assume you pride yourself on accuracy, not power. and because ball dynamics require revolutions to increase the pent up power in the ball, and since you are a straight bowler with <10 revs, getting a vibe or plastic ball will make almost no difference to your ball power, again assuming you drill conventional grip.Originally posted by unique1:sorry for my ignorance...do you mean that if my ball never hook a bit at the end...there will not be much diff btw the plastic and the Hammer??
When using my current plastic ball, my ball tend to hook a bit at the end so other bowlers said I should consider getting a more high end ball as it will be so call more stable.. True??
Can say I am quite accurate. However there are times when the ball is straight all the way and at the crucial moment, turned. At these times or when it is a pocket throw but always one pin standing, bowlers will say it's time for me to get a new ball and it should not be plastic..Originally posted by unclebutcher:no, plastic balls are more stable. if you are straight bowler i assume you pride yourself on accuracy, not power. and because ball dynamics require revolutions to increase the pent up power in the ball, and since you are a straight bowler with <10 revs, getting a vibe or plastic ball will make almost no difference to your ball power, again assuming you drill conventional grip.

wat u say is quite true.. reactive ball on drier lanes will tend to hook.. but no matter is reactive ball or polyester ball on drier lane will still hook at least abit..Originally posted by richieleo:I have seen straight bowlers use a reactive ball but I personally do not see the need.
Apple may be right. I have noticed that most straight bowlers use a heavier ball to get better pin action. I don't think getting a reactive ball will change the way the pins falls but getting a heavier ball might. Also, please remember that once you have a reactive ball, the ball will tend to hook on drier lanes and it might cause you to miss the pocket when a normal plastic ball would not.
as i said, more pin action is only gotten from the reactive ball when there are revolutions(i.e. skid hook roll).Originally posted by samchia:wat u say is quite true.. reactive ball on drier lanes will tend to hook.. but no matter is reactive ball or polyester ball on drier lane will still hook at least abit..
but i think straight bowlers uses reactive ball also okie. cos not only heavier ball give better pin action, the core in the reactive ball and the coverstock do provides more hitting power and generate more pin actions..
Since reactive ball doesn't help me to generate more pin reaction, how come the pro shop recommends me that and says it will?? I especially stressed that I am a straight bowler and I presumed the correct advice should be given to me??Originally posted by unclebutcher:as i said, more pin action is only gotten from the reactive ball when there are revolutions(i.e. skid hook roll).
Another thing I forgot to mentioned is that I am a female straight bowler using a 11 pound plastic ballOriginally posted by unique1:Since reactive ball doesn't help me to generate more pin reaction, how come the pro shop recommends me that and says it will?? nt neccessary ONLY revolutions will create more pin action. Reactive ball no matter wat will hav more pin action compare to polyester ball..Originally posted by unclebutcher:as i said, more pin action is only gotten from the reactive ball when there are revolutions(i.e. skid hook roll).
i think u can consider taking the reactive ball.. it do give better pin reaction compare to polyester ballOriginally posted by unique1:Since reactive ball doesn't help me to generate more pin reaction, how come the pro shop recommends me that and says it will?? wow.. nice 1.. great explanationOriginally posted by Armadillo:Hi,
When we talk about pin action, I believe its important first to understand our own releases. Be it straight or hook. If you look at it closely everytime you roll/throw a ball down the lane. You will realise it actually hook towards the pin either left or right. This is becos all lanes are dressed with lane oil for protection purposes. Hence, when there is oil = less friction = less roll = look straighter at the front 40ft or so. No one of us is 100% straight bowler. Your ball did hook(change direction) while rolling towards the pin. It is just that most don't understand how would it be consider hook or not?
To me aslong I released my shot on the 10 boards & it reaches at 10 boards of the break point, when it change direction & hit the pin on the pocket which is 17.5 board. My ball hooks 7.5 boards.
Polyester ball = plastic CS = less friction = less roll = more skid = more deflection = less pin action=less nos of pin knock down
Why reactive???? Advantage is that they absord lane oil while rolling on it. It flares the CS on different area. (You can see this everytime when the ball is returned with strip of oil on it.) Hence, it give you more bites on the oily surface & harded bites after clearing the front portion on the lanes filled with oil. There are more details to it which its difficult to explained in fews lines...................in general
Reactive ball = reactive CS = more friction = more roll = less skid = less deflection = better pin action = more nos of pin knock down
That is why most of us will realised our averages shoot up slightly when we changed to a reactive ball.
Pls also note that the weight of the ball must be equal when making comparision.
Happy bowling!!!
Thanks for the great info. Will seriously consider the purchase now.Originally posted by Armadillo:Hi,
