Do you or do you know of anyone using Hammer Cherry Vibe?? How do you find the ball?? Am a straight bowler and thinking of getting it..

the Cherry Vibe is a reactive ball. If you are a straight bowler, why would you need a reactive ball?

That's the question I ask the pro shop... I was told..why not...it can have more pin reaction at the back end. erm. not much difference if you are a straight bowler, the core only generates power at teh end if u hook it with revolutions.

no, plastic balls are more stable. if you are straight bowler i assume you pride yourself on accuracy, not power. and because ball dynamics require revolutions to increase the pent up power in the ball, and since you are a straight bowler with <10 revs, getting a vibe or plastic ball will make almost no difference to your ball power, again assuming you drill conventional grip.Originally posted by unique1:sorry for my ignorance...do you mean that if my ball never hook a bit at the end...there will not be much diff btw the plastic and the Hammer??

Can say I am quite accurate. However there are times when the ball is straight all the way and at the crucial moment, turned. could it be your ball weight is light? as when it rolls toward to the pkt there isnt much rev...so others sugguested you to get a high end ball? -
I have seen straight bowlers use a reactive ball but I personally do not see the need.
Apple may be right. I have noticed that most straight bowlers use a heavier ball to get better pin action. I don't think getting a reactive ball will change the way the pins falls but getting a heavier ball might. Also, please remember that once you have a reactive ball, the ball will tend to hook on drier lanes and it might cause you to miss the pocket when a normal plastic ball would not. -

Since reactive ball doesn't help me to generate more pin reaction, how come the pro shop recommends me that and says it will?? When we talk about pin action, I believe its important first to understand our own releases. Be it straight or hook. If you look at it closely everytime you roll/throw a ball down the lane. You will realise it actually hook towards the pin either left or right. This is becos all lanes are dressed with lane oil for protection purposes. Hence, when there is oil = less friction = less roll = look straighter at the front 40ft or so. No one of us is 100% straight bowler. Your ball did hook(change direction) while rolling towards the pin. It is just that most don't understand how would it be consider hook or not?
To me aslong I released my shot on the 10 boards & it reaches at 10 boards of the break point, when it change direction & hit the pin on the pocket which is 17.5 board. My ball hooks 7.5 boards.
Polyester ball = plastic CS = less friction = less roll = more skid = more deflection = less pin action=less nos of pin knock down
Why reactive???? Advantage is that they absord lane oil while rolling on it. It flares the CS on different area. (You can see this everytime when the ball is returned with strip of oil on it.) Hence, it give you more bites on the oily surface & harded bites after clearing the front portion on the lanes filled with oil. There are more details to it which its difficult to explained in fews lines...................in general
