power bowling is like cranking la, but it has a slightly different technique that involves breaking the wrist when releasing the ball, which uses gravity to increase the RPM instead of the traditional lifting of fingers. It is a relatively new term that came into the bowling world for mayb 2 3 years back.Originally posted by the Bear:what's power bowling?
when i first bought my ball, it shocked me coz from rightmost arrow it went into the left gutter 3/4 of the way there... had to control it.. then dunno why, maybe the lane wasn't oiled properly that day, now it hooks normally
mostly, i have a "pariah" method...
sometimes a normal sedate hook which sometimes i have difficulty controlling.. sometimes when it works, it's fun
if it gets too erratic, i go pick up a 9lb or 10lb house ball and spin the ball.. more consistent and just as fun
i don't post high scores at all.. but when things come together (rarely) it's around the 200 region... but it's not consistent coz i'd rather be clowning around and having fun rather than concentrate
i think for casual bowlers like myself, it's more about company and fun
... it has a slightly different technique that involves breaking the wrist when releasing the ball ...This is termed "Loading and Unloading".
... which uses gravity to increase the RPM instead of the traditional lifting of fingers ...I'm not sure about gravity effects, but unloading at any time during a release is generally a method to increase the amount of leverage one can get onto the ball.
ya, it is actually not easy to understand, let alone to do or perfect it. When i started learning, even after demo by my coach, i stil did not quite get it. it is like totally different from conventional hook bowling. Anyway, this so called unloading is wat some people would name as "hitting" the ball.Originally posted by harmzuay:I'm not sure about gravity effects, but unloading at any time during a release is generally a method to increase the amount of leverage one can get onto the ball.

hmm....not really nice to quote coaches directly, i will pm youOriginally posted by Spook:Hi enginboi,
Can you recommend those few coaches who can teach the technique well.
Perhaps, we could organise a mini gathering and have some fun together ya?
It's called lofting (or loafing? loafting?) Bad for the lanes, may offend other bowlers. But some says it helps get the ball down dry heads.Originally posted by casino_king:huh a bowling forum? Good. I sometimes release the ball high and far and it drops with a big bang on the runway.... hmmm is that considered rude? Will it damage the runway? Do onlookers look at me with disgust?
I bowl like a couple of times a decade.
Generally I prefer oily lanes.Originally posted by the Bear:talking about hook, .... my org bowling league, the bloody lanes were so impregnated with oil, the ball just kept going straight.. .....
i love bowling
wow, thats pretty impressive!! really glad to have you sharing your views and info. Anyway the "pin in" ball i got is "The Rock Pearl" from columbia, suppose to be a high performance ball. Anyway the pin is positioned 1 inch directly below my ring finger, which is very very close to my PAP. I do know that the biggest influence on drilling is dist of pin fr PAP, in this case this pin is very close to my PAP, so mayb that explains why it hooks less. Dunno if it is really wrong drilling anot thou..Originally posted by mah:basically lofting is not style of bowling.... to loft means that u want the ball to go straighter... by the law of physics u have already converted part of your energy imparted to the ball to sound energy that is the reason y when ppl loft there is always a loud thud, at times u may offend another bowler but if the person understand y u do that i tink he will not be angry anymore....secondly modern bowling A.K.A power bowling.. it is to make use of the gravity and comfort zones of your body to bowl... if u r in a position that u r most comfortable with u wun stray off this increase consistency and accuracy. modern release is taught known as "turn and lift" it is a modern release which help in increasing RPM and the reason y we need RPM is because it can increase the chances of strikes. with enough RPM Pin actions and cover the Pin deck area twice thus it increases the chances of strike conventional release is lift and turn this release had been stopped for many years because it caused many injuries and it actually ended some ppl's bowling career... lastly why pearlised ball pick up roll later is because a pearlise ball is hardern and shiny it has more rolling resistance. lastly a pin in ball does not hook less than a pin out ball... in fact a pin in ball can hook more than a pin out ball....the reason engniboi got that ball that hook less is because it might be a beginners ball like a tornado(ebonite) it has no core and a weak coverstock thus it is a ball that do not hook that much. if not then i tink they have given u the wrong drilling that actually reduces the potential of the ball....
his son got 4 or 5 perfect game under his belt, and he is only 19. envy envy...haha....he used to play conventional hook when he was young, then change to spinner during sec and finally power bowling at poly.he got 1 perfect recently and that adds to his personal data and in total he got 5 perfect games... 2 from spinner and 3 from hook... it onli took him 2 years to master hook lah... btw enginboi are u a student under him and his father... if u are pls PM mi....
