There's the national league??Originally posted by Spook:What about the youth, the nat'l squad, should there be more should tournments on a regular basis to expose them on competative grounds.
I would really love to see such tournament can be organised on regular basis, say monthly.
i think in singapore, the only main event is the Singapore International Open, that is where you can see the national bowlers and youth in action. Other than that, they do actively participative in bowling competitions, esp those held in malaysia, such as milo all star, or the malaysian international open which is stil ongoing now. you can refer to the following url:Originally posted by Spook:Its rather strange that with so many bowling facilities in SG, we barely sees reputable local tounaments. Why?
Lack of Sponsors?
Lack of Support?
What can be done?
Lets no mentioned about leagues, ok, just tournaments.
There are Fun Bowlings here and there, where you'll see the regular faces most of the time.

Look around our regions, so many new talents spawning, what about SG?
Time to play some catch up SG?
For the love of the game.
actually i would also like to see more local competitions, where we can also invite the regions best to come to singapore to play instead of us always going over to their country...but you are right....sponser is a huge problem. But bowling is only starting to gain some significance in singapore in recent years, so i guess it takes more success stories to make sponsers willing to put in more money.Originally posted by Spook:There's a Chinese saying,

I meant, shouldn't our local bowlers established themselves locally first, gained more tournament exposures, constantly competing, weekly, monthly, than the top of the crops, especially those who's in better form and consistency get to go overseas to compete internationally?
That's why i say SG lacks Local Tornaments in our calendar to give our bowlers adequate exposures. With so many Bowling facilities, Bowler Centres
can take the lead to help organise more tournaments, good ones, not just for FUN, but with an objective and goal in mind, SBF can show their supoprt by sending the National's to participate. Corporate Sponsors can oso be invited to chip in their bits, by than our bowling scenes would be quite vibrant liao .
It can only be good for the sport & the country right?
Just my simple minded thoughts.
I may be wrong or being too idealistic
i think singapore national bowlers may just not hav the right coach or right training yet, bowling well is all about reading the lane conditions and matching up to utilise the situation, so i guess it is not a good excuse to blame the lane at their level. i think a real top level coach would sure make a difference, as we do hav many very talented bowlers, not losing to malaysia. But all in all it depends on the budget of SBF la. Cos if you think abt it, bowling is a sports where size does not matter, so it is really all abt skills and knowledge, and skills and knowledge is wat coach is suppose to impart, so...it is ultimately...the coach.Originally posted by samchia:I personally feel tat singapore bowling standard as in youth is not realli up to standard yet.
for example we see malaysia bowling tournaments (if u guys hav notice), they can bowl very high average in those qualifying rounds and also even in the finals. Some ppl might say maybe the lane conditions is right for them or wat.. but hardwork + intensive training is also factors that they can bowl well. to me i feel tat tats wat singapore bowling hav lag in.
Over the years malaysia bowling scene hav groom alot of talents like adrian ang who lost to jack wong in last year's singapore open stepladder final which he is only 17 years old and have score more perfect game than our local "Mr Perfect" jack wong. others still hav like aaron kong, issac russell and still got alot more.
One Most important factor is tat they can bowl consistently well in internatonal/local tournament and not juz one tournament. singapore bowlers juz cant do tat.. maybe they juz lag of exposure to tournaments and maybe time to change in their trg methods and they dun hav consistency.
take the juz ended National schs "b division" at SY. Which is the most high scoring division i would say compare to A division( which is JCs) and C division (lower sec). singapore sports sch won all the champions and overall champion for girls division. while the boys lost all the champion title to ACSI. girls division sss won we can see is becos all the talented girls bowlers are in sss, for sure there is no match for other schs. as for boys they shld hav all the talented youth bowlers some is even in national youth trg squad but they still cant win a single champion. maybe we can say the luck is not wif them tat time but if u see it urself u will see tat their shots is not as consistent as others and tat i believe shld hav cause them to lose.
We shld wait and see the upcoming tournament next week which is 9th asian sch bowling championship. see how's our singapore bowlers bowl then..
I agree tat coach might be the problem.. but singapore used to have gd coach like pat henry but there is like no much different.. singapore bowlers in international level still dun bowl well. although there are some problems in the organising of team when pat henry left recently. singapore have the talents.. but i doubt is as much as our neighbouring country. i believe SBF hav got the budget only is the way they plan and spend the $. most importantly SBF shld send the youth bowlers overseas more often to get more international standard exposure..Originally posted by enginboi:i think singapore national bowlers may just not hav the right coach or right training yet, bowling well is all about reading the lane conditions and matching up to utilise the situation, so i guess it is not a good excuse to blame the lane at their level. i think a real top level coach would sure make a difference, as we do hav many very talented bowlers, not losing to malaysia.
