  a combination lock with 3 digits has how many possible combinations (including starting with 0) and how to calculate?

  first digit possibilities = 0 to 9 = 10
  second digit possibilities = 0 to 9 = 10
  third digit possibilities = 0 to 9 = 10
  
  10^3 = 1000
  
  other way to do
  all numbers, 000 to 999 inclusive
  999 - 000 + 1 = 1000
