A computer science degree would be a formal computing education i would say ... you'd study discrete math, logic, algorithms etc (lots and lots of it), formal software engineering techniques, statistis, programming paradigms, Operating systems, etc ... and then there's some interesting and fun electives like Artificial Intelligence, compiler design, distributed and parallel computing, mobile and ubiquitious computing etc ....
I can't say much for IT and info sys ... cos I'm not taking one of those courses ...
