"Whosoever, Manjushri, will write down this litany of the 108 names of the tathagata....they will have a full lifespan of 100 years. After they have died they will be reborn in in the buddha kshetra of Tathagata Aparimitayus and will have an unlimited lifespan [aparimitayus] in the lokadhatu (world-system) 'Immeasurable Collection of Good Qualites' [punyasambhara]....
Then the Bhagavan at that time spoke these gatha:
"A Buddha arises through the power of dana (charity).
The lion of men realizes the power of dana.
The cry of the power of dana is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion (karuna).
A Buddha arises through the power of shila (discipline).
The lion of men realizes the power of shila.
The cry of the power of shila is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion.
A Buddha arises through the power of kshanti (patience).
The lion of men realizes the power of kshanti.
The cry of the power of kshanti is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion.
A Buddha arises through the power of virya (heroic effort).
The lion of men realizes the power of virya.
The cry of the power of virya is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion.
A Buddha arises through the dhyana (form-realm meditation).
The lion of men realizes the power of dhyana.
The cry of the power of dhyana is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion.
A Buddha arises through the power of prajna (wisdom).
The lion of men realizes the power of prajna.
The cry of the power of prajna is heard
When one has entered into the city of compassion."

Note: dana, shila, kshanti, virya, dhyana and prajna comprise the initial six paramitas (transcendent qualities) of bodhisattvas. The others are upaya (means), pranidhana (vows), bala (power) and jnana (exalted knowledge).
