  zhan yan - the word yan2 means saying - it is written as the word "day or ri4"
  
  2nd sentence -
  
  jin ri -today as most sentient beings are sheltered
  
  bi in the last word means sheltered .
  
  3rd sentence - jing shou -respectly accept all people who slander Mahayana Buddhism .
  
  The overall meaning is this prose is to answer to those who criticise mahayana teaching
  
  In China at that time ,during the author of this prose (ven master Kui Ji)
  
  Mahayana Buddhism faced challenges from the Cheng Shi School of AbidhammaKosa on the Arhat and the Taoism and Confucianism
