want take up on that last para of yours about having to have our gahmen promote the arts industry. So pathetic leh, don't you think? It is like forcing art down the people's throat.Originally posted by FireIce:we can have the so-called world-class assplanade to house international renowned performances but do our ppl have the interest or the time to appreciate arts?
throughout our education, where do arts stand?
as CCAs perhaps.....but it's jus CCA.......students are to concentrate on academic subjects.....
and with the societal pressure on earning a living these days, who relli dare to pursue this interest?
arts is jiak bey ba, gor bey si....
though the govt has plans and some funds to promote our arts industry, it's gonna take a couple of generations to cultivate the culture and drill the importance of arts into our ppl's minds......
fine arts = real artsOriginally posted by I_am_PeTe_Parker:so what so fine about fine arts

photography, paintings, orchestra...I can apreciate. But, drama and dance....errr someone has to explain why I should try going to one. Yes...I haven't been to a drama or dance (like Les Messy Rub or other Andrew Lloyd Weber thingy). What makes you want to give your money away to see one?Originally posted by FireIce:i guess the Arts here is referring to performing arts (drama, dance, orchestra) and still arts (photography, paintings)
Originally posted by I_am_PeTe_Parker:It is just impossible to instill art appreciation sense into Singaporeans. It not in our culture. We are too simple!
well duh.Originally posted by I_am_PeTe_Parker:so what makes you a fines arts teh |337...huh?
Art is a part of our lifestyle.Originally posted by I_am_PeTe_Parker:photography, paintings, orchestra...I can apreciate. It all depends at what and whose perspective are you looking at.Originally posted by gasband:Anything can be made into an art nowadays.
I may be generalising but once something that was known as art is commercialised, it is no longer art. I never believed that art can be sold or bought at a price. It is meant to be appreciated by all, not bought by one.
I have never run into anyone with a love for the arts before. Knew someone who like to go to watch plays though...you know the drama and dance kind (Les Messy Rub kind). She is always trying to get me to go along with her...We always end up watching movies instead...and fast food (to her dismay I suppose) after the movies...Maybe that is why she decide to dump me. Well I am going out of pointOriginally posted by mistyblue:some ppl like to flaunt their money and buy flashy things
some ppl just purely like to appreciate art and share that with others.
depends on who you run into...
Lucky you never say...You need to have class and style to appreciate and understand it...Originally posted by coffeeortea:come on.. arts is a form of class and style.
you need to have a passion for it to really appreciate and understand it.
this is very subjectable to everyone.
Noooooooooooo...I am not belittling my fellow country men and women. Did it sound that way???Originally posted by choco B:I find the way you put down and belittle Singaporeans, offensive and unfair. People change as times change, there is nothing impossible! Just because a majority of Singaporeans now are more focused on the material side of life doesn't mean they are unable or will never be able to appreciate the arts.
Besides art doesn't only refer to big money fine arts like in your post. It is all-encompassing , more liberal and wider than you think, including things like popular culture, traditional and cultural arts, visual, audio and performance.
There's no right or wrong way to appreciate art. People are moved by things they see or hear; art affects the emotions and the mind. One doesn't have to justify or explain individual preference and appreciation. And I think that's the beauty of it.
uber sweetsor....I finally made the.raven tongue tied and speechlessOriginally posted by the.raven:well duh.
I would pay a kings ransom for a ticket to a rock concert if for example my favourite band is playing. Reason - to see them in the flesh. Same with football fans willing to go all the way to Old Trafford or Anfield to watch their team.Originally posted by M©+square:Art is a part of our lifestyle.
I myself cannot appreciate ballet dance and theatre plays and dramas too. However, if you understand why people are willing to pay $9 to watch a movie in the cinema. A group of people who pays $75 - 200 to go to Indoor Stadium for a Concert show. There will definately be a group who pays those sum of money to watch Theatre plays.
What makes? Personal preference makes it.
