Rethink funding for sports. Putting money in soccer didn't pay off
I congratulate all the medal winners at the SEA Games as well as those who have put in their best efforts to do Singapore proud.
I'm also proud to note that we have excelled in many sports, such as water polo, swimming, wushu, gymnastics, just to name a few.
After all these years, I feel that our efforts and strategies in sports need to be re-examined. I believe that our footballers have put in a lot of effort, but where are we heading in this sport?
It appears that a lot of attention (I'm not sure about fundings) had been put into football. I can imagine that it takes a lot to produce a good football team, since we need all 11 players plus reserves and others to be working together seamlessly to produce good results.
But shouldn't all the attention and fundings be channelled to sports that are already producing results? Perhaps we should spend on individual sports talents or smaller teams, like grooming a world class waterpolo team.
While football remains a popular sport globally, with all due respect to those currently involved, I think we ought to be clear about where we are heading and whether we should be redirecting our efforts to bring other sports to a higher level of world competitiveness.

i think they should funding the s-league too.
after so many years they have hardly improved/
maybe it is time they channel more funds into sports that can bring us honours, like swimming, table tennis etc.
