LONDON - THE League Cup has often suffered disdain from top clubs.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have used the tournament as a training ground for their youngsters and reserves.
But Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, whose Premiership leaders host second-placed Charlton Athletic in the knock-out competition tonight, insisted it would not be the case this season because his side enter as holders.
He said: 'We respect matches, we respect competitions and if you think we are going to play against Charlton with a reserve team, you are wrong.
'We respect every opponent.'
You can just about hear his rivals in the English Premier League scoff.
Now add Johan Cruyff to that list.
The Dutch maestro, who brought 'total football' to Ajax in the 1970s and to Barcelona in the 1980s, is embroiled in a tit-for-tat with the Chelsea manager, one which reignited on Monday.
After being goaded by Mourinho, Cruyff said he was willing to impart the finer points of football, which included respect, to the Portuguese, reported The Times.
Said Cruyff: 'I am happy to hear that he would like me to teach him a few of the things I stand for. I could teach him how to play very well, just like at Ajax in the '70s or Barcelona in the '90s.
'But I would also teach him about winning respect from people. That is more important than the titles you win.'
He had criticised Chelsea's style of play and accused Mourinho of being a 'pragmatic coach who fails in his duty to entertain'.
Mourinho countered sarcastically by saying that people were still waiting for Cruyff to resume his coaching career, which ground to a halt in 1996, and that, in his opinion, there was little the former Holland international could teach him.
Said Mourinho: 'Since 1996, he refuses to step into the new football reality. I want him to come forward and teach me. I humbly ask for it. But he cannot teach me to become a national champion because I already am, three times.
'He cannot teach me to conquer the Uefa Cup because I also have it. He cannot teach me to become a European champion, either.'
Mourinho, who led FC Porto to the Uefa Cup and Champions League success in successive seasons, also reminded Cruyff of Barcelona's humiliating 0-4 defeat by AC Milan in the 1994 European Cup final.
'I don't want him to teach me how to lose 4-0 in a Champions League final because I don't want to learn that,' said Mourinho.
Cruyff retorted on Monday: 'This happens when you have a very long career, a career that began at the age of 17 and that continued until the age of 40 as a player and then other years as a coach.
'At his age, he has sufficient time to learn how to win and how to lose. To earn the respect of the whole world is a different story.'
Mourinho's claim that Chelsea could wrap up the Premiership by Christmas has not gone down well.
Charlton are very well aware of the saying 'the bigger you are...' and are ready to have their go at Chelsea, albeit in the League Cup.
'We are really looking forward to it, and, if they make a few changes, you never know,' said defender Luke Young.

Eg,a person go to work daily,he earn his pay too right but if goes around boasting how good his pay is,as compared to someone who earn the same but keep quiet about it,does it means the one who boast is the better one?
No it only show his bad behavior. I also never like it for other cocky managers too. -
