Arsene Wenger has put years of bitter rivalry aside to offer his full support to under-fire Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Scottish tactician was booed by some sections of the Old Trafford crowd on Saturday, as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Blackburn.
United now trail champions and league leaders Chelsea by ten points, a fact which has angered the club's faithful at such an early stage of the season.
Ferguson and Wenger have persistently been at loggerheads ever since the studious Frenchman arrived at Arsenal, with their constant spats becoming folklore in The Premiership.
Whilst conceding that he may never share friendship with his United counterpart, Wenger was left both shocked and saddened by the criticism received by Ferguson at the weekend.
''You know I'm not his best friend but I found that really appalling,'' said Wenger.
''Of course we - like our players - are only as good as our last game.
''But considering what this guy has done for the club, I find it horrendous, nearly unbelievable.''
Ferguson cut short a press conference prior to Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Benfica, angry that journalists had raised the topic of Saturday's defeat
Now this is something you don't see everyday..Looks like its a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend..And Chelsea seems like the biggest enemy thats why they can unite..
