Frank Lampard admits that Chelsea have become the most-hated team in English football.
The England midfielder acknowledges that the millions provided by billionaire-backer Roman Abramovich has made The Blues hugely unpopular, but insists the bad press does not faze the players.
Indeed, Lampard claims the Chelsea squad have become a tighter unit because of the criticism and sees parallels between the way that they and the dominant Manchester United team of recent seasons are now portrayed.
"We know we're not very popular these days," he told Zoo magazine.
"It comes from the funds we have, and I can kind of understand that - we've got a lot of money and some teams have nothing like as much.
"Also, the fact that we're champions puts people's backs up - you understand what Man United have been saying for all these years about people not liking them.
"But it's something we have to use to create a spirit in the camp that makes us even stronger."
Lampard revealed that boss Jose Mourinho has helped the players to feed off the criticism and use it to their advantage.
"The manager is very strong on that, and the players are understanding that now, too," he continued.
"It gets to a stage where you use every piece of criticism you get to make you stronger.
"We get it from a lot of angles and we hope to answer it all by success. Simple as that."

A RUSSIAN consortium is poised to launch an aggressive takeover bid of Aston Villa this week.
They are expected to offer between £5.60p and £5.80p a share which will value the club at just over £60million.
Although the buyers have gone to extreme lengths to hide their identities, they are believed to have considerable established funding.
Understandably, in the wake of Roman Abramovich's Russian revolution at Chelsea, many Villa fans will be hoping a takeover will transform life at Villa Park.
In fact, as well as taking control of the club's shareholding, the predatory Russians are aiming to inject around £75m to enable David O'Leary to strengthen his squad when the transfer window opens in January.
A consortium led by Ray Ranson, the former Manchester City and Birmingham defender, had an offer of £4 a share rejected just over two months ago after chairman Doug Ellis maintained the club's value far exceeded this valuation. Ellis did not even meet Ranson for face-to-face talks. -
