Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Liverpool for Milan Baros.
The Czech Republic marksman has been deemed surplus to requirements by Reds boss Rafa Benitez, who was keen to cash in on him to strengthen his side elsewhere.
French champions Lyon have lodged a bid of £8.5 million but Baros is not keen on joining up with Gerard Houllier again and prefers to stay in The Premiership.
Villa had bid £6.5 million and now the European champions have accepted an as-yet undisclosed offer for the 23-year-old striker.
Baros will now travel to Villa Park for a medical on Monday night and Villa expect the deal to be concluded on Tuesday with Baros penning a four-year deal.
"We've reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign the player and the next step is for him to have a medical," Villa operations director Steve Stride told the club's website.
"Hopefully we can soon conclude the deal."
Baros sparkled when top scoring in Euro 2004, and he helped The Reds land the European Cup for a fifth time last season.
However, Benitez is keen to bolster his defence and sign a right winger and thought the cash from Baros' departure would be better used in those areas.
Villa's Nolberto Solano has been linked with a move to Anfield but it is not yet known if he will be included as part of any deal, or whether Benitez will try to sign the Peruvian at all.
David O'Leary insists that he has had no contact with Liverpool as yet but would not stand in Solano's way if he wanted to move to Merseyside.
Although a central defender is Benitez's priority, Baros' departure will now heighten speculation about Michael Owen returning to Anfield from Real Madrid.
Deathy,i think ur wish came true..And liverpool fans, the signs seems to point towards a return for owen..
