Chelsea open Shevchenko talks with AC Milan
Andrei Shevchenko has told AC Milan he wants to leave the Italian giants.
Chelsea have opened talks with Milan over a mega £60 million deal for the Ukraine international. Negotiations kicked off yesterday and a deal would shatter the previous world record fee Real Madrid paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane by a staggering £15m.
Boss Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the 29-year-old, who has been top scorer in Serie A for the past four seasons.
Chelsea may offer either strike aces Didier Drogba or Hernan Crespo - who was on loan with Milan last season - plus £45m in football's biggest deal.
Shevchenko's love affair with Italy appears over after falling out with skipper Paolo Maldini - a legend at the club.
He has already been involved in a series of rows with boss Carlo Ancelotti, including one for delaying a nose operation until the end of his summer holiday, which meant he returned to pre-season training late.
Shevchenko did not even fly out for the pre-season World Series of Football tournament in which Milan lost 1-0 to Chelsea on Sunday.
Last season's beaten Champions League finalists are based in Chicago while Chelsea are in New Jersey.
Now Mourinho is now ready to pounce using billionaire owner Roman Abramovich's cheque book to land the striker he has always wanted.
