Graeme Souness vowed to fight on as Newcastle boss as fans called for his head following today's 1-0 home defeat by Blackburn.
Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Milburn entrance at St James' Park for more than an hour after the final whistle to vent their frustration following Morten Gamst Pedersen's controversial winner.
But speaking at his post-match press conference with shouts of `Souness out' and `there's only one Bobby Robson' clearly audible from outside the stadium, the Scot remained defiant.
'It's quite simple and I will say this once: the priority in my life is my family, to do the very best for my family at all times.
'And after that, the second most important thing in my life is my work and to do the very best at whatever job I am at, whoever's employing me, and I will continue to do that until somebody tells me differently.
'We think on our side we played quite well today, as we did last week. It was a game we should have got something from last week, and we should have got something from it today.
'As a manager, all you can ask for is total commitment and 100% from your players, and I think I get that. I don't think, I know I get that from my players.'
Asked outright if he had considered resigning, he said: 'I've answered it.' -

Souness lives to fight another day on Toon
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is still in charge at St James' Park after a brief meeting with chairman Freddy Shepherd.
The 52-year-old Souness was expected to be summoned to the stadium this morning but eventually held talks with Shepherd in the afternoon.
He left with his name still on the door of the manager's office and ready to continue preparations for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Cheltenham.
Souness, who was driven to and from the ground by coach Dean Saunders with Alan Murray from his backroom staff also in attendance, revealed he had spent around 10 minutes with the chairman and their conversation had been 'upbeat'

Shepherd: Toon may turn to foreign coach
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has left the door open for a foreign manager to succeed Graeme Souness at St James' Park.
Shepherd has also admitted he is prepared to wait until after the World Cup to land the right man for the job - bringing the likes of Guus Hiddink, Luiz Felipe Scolari and even Sven-Goran Eriksson into the equation.
He told the Sunday Mirror: 'In the past I have expressed a preference for a British manager but I feel that at this difficult time we have to look at every option open to us.
'That means we will be looking at every available candidate, no matter which country they coach or manage in.
'It is a World Cup year and that could throw up one or two interesting possibilities.
'Ideally, I would like to have the managerial situation sorted out sooner rather than later, but if waiting until after the World Cup led to getting the right man then I would be prepared to bide my time.' -

SHEPHERD BIDING HIS TIME
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd insists he is yet to approach anyone over the vacant manager's job at St James' Park amid a frenzy of speculation over Graeme Souness' successor.
“Let’s be absolutely clear about this; we have made no approach to anyone at this moment in time,” Shepherd told the club’s official website, www.nufc.co.uk.
“Graeme left the club on Thursday, and for the next 48 hours, all that concerned everyone at the club was getting behind Glenn Roeder as caretaker manager and beating Portsmouth.
“We did that and now we look to start moving forward again. At the minute, all the papers are full of speculation about who might, or who might not, be coming to Newcastle United.
“The guessing games have already started and that’s inevitable whenever there is a vacancy. But I can only repeat that we have made no approach to anyone at this point.
“We will sit down and consider all the options available, and we will take however long is necessary to ensure we make the right appointment.”
Academy manager Glenn Roeder and skipper Alan Shearer, who have both ruled themselves out for the job on a permanent basis, took charge for the 2-0 win over Portsmouth, a first league victory in seven attempts.
There has been speculation, especially in the wake of ShepherdÂ’s revelation that he wants to keep Shearer at the club beyond the expiry of his playing contract at the end of the season, that he will use the next few weeks to persuade him to take the post after all.
But he looks to have a tough task with the 35-year-old adamant he will not accept such a high-profile job until he is ready for it.
Barclays Premiership rules mean Roeder and Shearer can remain in charge for only 12 weeks because neither has a UEFA Pro Licence, although reserve team coach Tommy Craig does and his involvement could allow the club to extend their search to the end of the season and beyond.
In the meantime, Roeder will attempt to build on Saturday’s victory against Aston Villa this weekend, for which he will have to take a decision over £9.5million signing Albert Luque.
The 27-year-old Spain international was allowed to go home after discovering he was not in the 16 for the Pompey game, but held talks with the caretaker boss, with Nolberto Solano translating, after his return to training.
“He’s fine,” said Roeder. “We sat down and had a chat after training and it was good for me and good for Albert. It was a private chat, but a good chat. He told me his views on a few things, which was good.
“I don’t know how long I will be here for but while I am here I have to be able to work with the players in the best way possible way, and the best approach in most cases is to sit down and talk.
“I have seen him play since he signed in the summer and I have seen him playing in Spain. We also know what he is capable of from what he does in training.
“He is a typical Spanish player, very skilful. His English continues to improve and now we have to find a way of getting the best out of him.” -
