Second hand books

I was planning to sell a couple of textbooks from previous modules which I took. So I posted messages on IVLE, offering to sell those books.
One guy SMS-ed me, saying that he was interested in buying one of my books. He asked me about the condition of the book. So I told him that it was still in good condition and the covers were wrapped in plastic. It had some highlighting and pencilled annotations, but those are quite minimal. Pretty much what you would expect of a second-hand book, methinks.
However, just because of the highlighting and annotations, the guy decided to back off. He said that he wanted (I quote him) 'a totally clean book'.
Sheesh man... if you want a 'totally clean book', why bother buying second hand?

There are some books which are totally clean, like mine for example.
I never do anything on my book to increase resale price.

I bought my copy of Ender's Game from my church's thrift shop for 50 cents!!
And it was in new condition, despite being second hand.. -
My textbooks are clean.
No highlighting.. at the most, light penicl marks that can be erased away. But that's only if there are tutorial questions that need to be done. -

The whole point of second hand books is to HAVE annotations, extra notes, ANSWERS filled in preferably AND highlighting so you dont have to highlight important parts yourself!!!!
Why the hell do I want a clean book when someone else can do all that for me -
The point I'm trying to highlight (no pun intended) is that you can't really buy a second hand book and expect it to be brand new. It's only to be expected that there will be a few highlighted lines, some pencilled notes, and so on.
Of course, there will be second hand books that really look and feel brand new, but they are hard to find. The retail price of the book is $38++, and I'm only charging $20. That's pretty much what everyone else is charging for that book in the 'Used Textbooks' Forum in IVLE. Heck, I was open to negotiations. I would have given it to him for $15 if he asked.
I say a few highlighted lines and pencilled notes are a small price to pay for a discounted price. I don't see why anyone really needs the book to be totally clean.
Even then, if for some reason you need a totally clean book, go and get it at full price from the Co-Op. Don't even think about getting it second-hand. -

I agree that for studies it would be nice to have others gone before and see their notes...BUT...do you know how that person did on their tests? Sometimes it's nice to actually *learn* the stuff in the texts, instead of picking out highlighted items to memorize for a test then forget....
