"For Tibetans, pilgrimage refers to the journey from ignorance to enlightenment, from self-centeredness and materialistic preoccupationsto a deep sense of the relativity and interconnectedness of all life. The Tibetan word for pilgrimage, /neykhor/, means "to circle around asacred place," for the goal of pilgrimage is less to reach a particulardestination than to transcend through inspired travel the attachmentsand habits of inattention that restrict awareness of a larger reality."- Kelly,Thomas and Carroll Dunham and Ian Baker, /Tibet: Reflectionsfrom the Wheel of Life, 1993/
The slideshow is a sharing session from training, preparation and ground traveling for Mr. Phua Kia Ken's trip to Mt Kailash in Tibet. He has been to Mt.Kailash
3 times (2001, 2002 and 2005). Only this year he managed to get into inner kora (circuit) of Mt. kailash.
Listen to Ken present his slideshow of his pilgrimage to one of the more venerated sites in the world - Mt Kailash in Tibet. However,
the mountain's remote location in far western Tibet and its inaccessibility makes it also one of the least visited sites. The
mountain is over 6000m tall, and spread out on the Tibetan plateau next to it, is the magnificent Lake Mansarovar. Be overwhelmed by the slides
of green meadows, narrow canyons and glittering snow-whiteness through the Drolma La Pass. There is also Lhamo Lhatso, an oracle lake, where lucky persons can see his future life. Also where Dalai Lama and their regents would sit to contemplate the lake for visions.
The slideshow covers the trip from Lhasa by the northern route to Ali, ruined Guge, back by southern route, via Tirthapuri, Mt. Kailash and Lake
Manasarowan. to Lhasa. Distance of more than 3357 km. in year 2001 Walking distance for holy lake Manasarowan 80 to 104 km. As for Mt.Kailash circuit is about 52 km with crossing of Drolma La high pass ofabout 5500 m.
Find out from Uncle Ken how he planned his trip, the difficulties and challenges he faced during the trip, and most importantly, which is the best cook and guide he can recommend you!
**Please note that it is a comprehensive slideshow and expected to last for 2 hrs with 15 min. break. duration : 7.30 to 10pm. 15 min. break at about 8.45 pm. If there is sufficient time, slides of Mt Emei may be shown. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the slideshow.
