The Copiepresse association which represents newspapers in Belgium is now pressuring
Yahoo to stop offering copyrighted materials from the publications.
Copiepresse won a court victory against Google last year, forcing the search provider to remove all data from the newspapers' websites from its cache. Google consequently stopped linking to all Belgium newspapers on its
Google News service.
Google has appealed against the court ruling, arguing that it only provides summaries of Copiepress content accompanied by a source referral and the author's name. This would put the practice within the boundaries of local copyright law.
A judge is expected to rule on Google's appeal later this month.
Microsoft reported that is in talks with Copiepresse over its caching and linking practices.
