Sunflower Seedlings

  If i buy those sunflower seeds from supermarkets and plant them, will they grow? are they processed in any way that will prevent them from growing into plants?

  cos i tried growing dwarf sunflowers(from those pre-packed seedlings) but not very successful. i had one which managed to grow for weeks but it never bloom. it has since died already. so i was thinking if i can grow the bigger version of the sunflowers using those edilble sunflower seeds bought from the supermarket.
  
  since no one knows, i will try some to see if it will even germinate.

  i bought before years ago.. after the seeds started to grow into seedlings, a few days later almost all the seedlings wither
  
  perhaps i didn't transfer and divide the seedlings to other bigger pots

  I believe before the seeds are packaged, they would be sterilised either by radiation, heat, and so on for hygiene purposes (to kill bugs).

  i got buy the fertilisers (i buy tablet type de) display on the nearby shelvings.. in the end the seedlings wither even though "got extra nutrients"

  by right i should leave 45-60cm space apart for each seed but i didnt. they germinated but only 3 survived, then left 1 which died.

  can...coz its seed...i planted b4...U must get big pot..put it deep in...must water regularly.I planted alot of plnts b4...even green bean...I plant till the tree stage...got alot of seeds

  Hmm ya.. i tried the dwarf sunflowers and normal giant sunflowers before
  
  started the seedlines in small pots
  but when they become about 3-4 inches high
  I transfered them to garden soil
  think sunflowers need well drained soil
  cannot water too much~

  yah they needs lots of sun. the flowers like to turn to face the sun.

  and if you dont use insecticide
  when the big flower dry up
  you can peel open the head of the flower
  and get lots of more sunflower seeds to eat raw or to plant
  
  but the teddy bear dwarf sunflowers dont have seeds. dunno why leh.
