May i know where to buy a venus fly trap plant ?

Can anyone tell me , where can i buy a venus fly trap to grow ? Seeds or baby plant also can . I bought a sundew type of carnivores plant from the science center but have tried to grow it for 2 months but still never see any saplings , would like to try venus fly trap as my pots outside always has alot of pest problems . And also i like to grow such unusual plants as hobby .

Well thanks for giving me a bump , i'm glad to say i fianlly found where to buy it and have bought 1 venus fly trap and 1 pitcher plant . Yup both are carnivores plant . Still trying to learn how to best take care of it .

I got it at far east flora shop at that stretch of plants and gardening shop at thomson rd . So does anyone here keep such plants also care to share tips abt how to care for it ?

mostly, never ever re-pot the plant in good soil, it'll kill the plant...
my dad did that to mine even after telling him over and over never to do it.. and it died

Do such plants need plenty of sunlight? -
Well what i know is they need a strong source of sunlight but not strong direct sunlight as it may burn their leaf and you can only feed them 1 insect per week else you will overfeed them and they will die also . And also do not apply fertiliser to them as they will get it from the insects they catch . And if you really wants to change their pot , get some sphagnum moss from the far east flora shop as the original potting consist of that only . And also do not allow their potting to dry out as i find that they consume water quite fast .

u'll need hundreds to solve your insect problem.

Well will try to post the picture of it when i free and perhaps you can feed more but to a limit else the leaf will rot off lor . Cos when i bought it , 6 of its leaf are closed and so far 3 of the leaf has opened after digesting the insect inside ( 1 housefly each and 1 grasshopper ) , so maybe you can feed up to 4 or 5 per week on different days ? Will try that out when i have the chance folks . If i spot any rubbish chute outside has alot of houseflies i will bring them there to " gobble " lol .

and how they attract the insects to fly to it? i only know pitcher plant give out the nectar smell, then they slip and drop into the digestive juices. -

Normally they wont eat insect one.
They is no need for them to do so in the first way.
If the plant got enuff water and sunlight all this.
The plant wont even bother. -
If theres no insect , they will just grow more slowly . Well frankly speaking i also don't know how the venus fly trap attract the insects . So far already got 1 " willing " spider kana drown inside the pitcher plant liao . Serve it right to spin spider web on my plants esp the venus fly trap and the pitcher .

Erm does anyone know why my plant doesn't " eat " the insect i feed to its leave ? I mean the leaves just doesn't close lor even when i use a straw to touch the fine hair on it . By the way i tried to feed it just now which means ard 11.00pm at nite lor cos i just came back from work . I thought this plants feed all day long ? Can anyone please answer me ?

U need 2 touch at least 2 of it hair at e same time

Try liao but still cannot ley , i touch 2 of its hair using a toothpick but still no response . I found that the hair at the end of the trap is pointing outwards instead of towards each other . Can anyone tell me why like that and how to make the trap active agn ? And hor , the pitcher plant hor do you need to pour some water into it or can leave it dry inside ? Which way is better for it to digest insect dropped into it ar ? Cos my pitcher plant inside now very dry and empty . When i bought it , it has some water inside i thought is by its own but now its dry ley .

Just remember not to go too ner it if you are in the raw hor.... sekali your didi kana caught finish liao hor..........

anyway if the venus fly trap dun eat insects will it die? or can live through water and soil nutrients like other plants
