Hi..... got myself a Canon EOS 400D about a month ago.... been playing with it ever since. Also got myself a 2nd hand Canon EF-S 60mm Macro lense. When to Sentosa 'Butterfly Park' last Monday for a little 'Insect' photo shooting. Enjoy....

Very nice i also taken some macro shot using cannon s3 is . But i noticed that at certain distance for macro mode , the camera can't seem to decide on it and the images keep becoming blur n clear on n off . And may i know where can i buy the additional macro lens for it and how much is it ? Perhaps threadstarter can jio me for going out to take macro shots together .

Me no expert at takin Photo. But I was using a Macro lense for these photo. Found that DSLR with a 'real' Macro Lense works better. Also u must put ur shuttle speed to be 'faster'..... like 1/60 of a sec, to reduce bluring due to shaking hands. Macro as have a min distance between 'subject' and the lense...... too close, and the camera won't focus.....

Problem is the s3is claims to have a macro of 0cm . Which is quite true cos i been able to take a few shots of red ants using that . rather is the distance between macro and normal shot that the camera keep focusing non stop . I have a few pics loaded in the insect pictures thread which i believe has expired .

U forget that at 0cm..... there is not enough light surrounding the subject..... then the camera 'shutter speed' will auto cut in and 'open' the shutter longer. Make a small hand movement, and the photo will be blur. yah i think you have addressed the problem , but if i don't use it at 0cm , the picture won't be as clear and big . And i use it on a sunny day also .

hahaha..... u should have seen my A610 do macro at 0cm..... totally un-usable. The photo of the flower came out blur & dark..... if i use flash, the whole pic will be 'red' due to over-expose by strong flashlight. Well for the time being i still won't buy a DSLR camera becos i just bought my s3is abt 6 months only , and i also don't like to lug a heavy camera bag on my trips . Actually i buy this camera because its near to DSLR and the claims of 0cm macro and also its 12x optical zoom . I don't really earn much and have been changing job here and there also . So i don't want to spend too much money on my hobby . From what i understand , an extra lens for DSLR camera can easilly cost at least a few hundreds . Oh yah did you buy any dry box to protect and store your DSLR ? Wanted to buy 1 but quite exp . And no proper place for those cabinet type .

Me just using a Air tight dry box...... also have no place at home for dry cabinet...... Mainly no willing to 'power' the cabinet. Can't pay PUB as it is..... -
May i know what kind of air tight dry box you bought and how much is it also ? Maybe if its affordable to me i may buy one also . My aim for macro shot was something which you already achieved , the very closed up and detailed shots of the butterfly mouth so damm clear . So far i ony manage to get some close shot of red ant , praying mantis and a pair of housefly having sex on a leaf ... heng heng spotted them one . Do get a Sigma 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 Macro AG.Its Macro at 200mm and up.Second hand should be ard 150-300$
photo 7,12 and 14 are good out of the rest.For others,the DOF is too small and hence not all of the insect/plants parts are focused. -

Thxs for the pointer..... I did check out both a Sigma and a Tamron lense before settling down with my Canon EF-S 60mm. Mainly due to size of the other lense. When both the sigma & tamron is extended...... damn 'long'.
